I WANNA BE WHERE YOU ARE
--------------------IF MY INSANITY COMES
FULL NAME:
- Levi Leif Luwaby. He tends to like his name, as he got to help his family make the decision on their new last name. He purposely chose the last name to work with his to cause an alliteration.
- Levi just goes by Levi. There aren't many nicknames that he holds anymore. His older sister used to call him "Little Bear" when he was younger, but, nobody has since then. Some people, normally friends, or family members that were angry with him would use his middle name. His middle name is used with an emphasis along with his full name to make him notice it is serious and he needs to pay attention.
- Levi is sixteen (16) years old. He was born on February 3, 1927. There was an accident involving time which caused him to still be sixteen in the modern days.
- Levi is a muggleborn. He is proud to be a muggleborn, and would not trade it for anything.
- Once upon a time Levi was afraid to admit his sexuality, but, before his accident he had come to terms with it. Levi is homosexual.
- Levi will be in his sixth year. He is taking extra courses to help himself catch-up to modern times.
- Levi will defiantly support the light side. He gives his support to the Order of the Phoenix. However, at this time he does have a stance, but, has not pledged his allegiance. So, he is an Order of the Phoenix supporter.
- Levi has a springy, but, delicate ten inch ebony wand. The ebony brings in a black color which makes his wand one of the darker colors available. His wand does have a slight spiral curve to it, which, if straightened out would be about twelve and a half inches. His wand is slightly flexible and is very light. His wand feels lighter then most others on the market because it was crafted with a fairy wing core. His wand feels as light as a quill feather pen. With the light wand he finds it easier to cast charms, but, he finds it harder to master some spells. In all, he finds them all a bit powerful when he finally does master something. Levi takes great care of his wand. As time goes on, the type seems to be getting rarer. His wand is well over a hundred years old and crafted in 1864.
WRAPPED UP INSIDE YOU

FACE DESCRIPTION:
- Levi has dark brown hair that appears black depending on the amount of lightning around him. His hair has been brown all of his life, and he is perfectly fine with his hair color and properties. His hair is naturally straight and Levi uses it to his advantage. Most of his family has similar hair to his style, but, blonde seemed to be the dominant trait carried genetically so his hair style took aver his grandfather. As a teenager he experiments with his hair styles. Spiky, straight, combed up, to the side. He can never decide, and, he is very confused of trying to pick the right look.
He has dull green eyes that appear bright at times when they fill with moisture. His dull green eyes, in Levi's own words tell his deep conflicted story and personality. His face is normally clean shaven, but, he really doesn't grow that much hair yet anyway.
- Levi Luwaby is a growing teenager, but, thin. He seems to hold a small body build. Levi is well into puberty and is still growing constantly. When he was thirteen years old he was only 4' 11" now at half past sixteen he's nearly 5' 9". It is estimated he will reach a full height around 6' by the age of twenty. He currently is about a hundred and twenty-six pounds. However, Levi isn't concerned with his weight and never goes to find a scale and check himself out. The only thing he really cares about is his hair.
- Levi is Caucasian. His skin is white, though not as pale as some would expect. Levi has a tenacity to want to run. He would wear short sleeve shirts and shorts when running. This causes his lower legs, arms, and the back of his neck to hit more sun light then the rest of his body. So hence, he does have a slightly tanned face. The tan is not deep enough to be noticed and fades away quickly when the school years begin. On his back he has a handful of scars and bumps that follow them. They have begun to settle down, but, they are highly noticeable. He never used nor asked anyone to use magic to remove his scars. These scars were caused by being beaten with a whip. Luckily, he has none on his arms or shoulders or chest. He did have a few on his chest, but, not as harsh as his back. The scars on his chest have faded and are hardly noticeable.
On his left forearm there are numbers written into his skin. The tattoo is a faded greenish-black ink and still appears somewhat fresh as if only done a few years previous. The numbers read "69613". Levi does not attempt to hide the numbers. He is not ashamed of them. Though, they do cause others to become confused.

IN CASE OF THOUGHT TO ESCAPE
--------------------KEEP THE HAMMER OUT OF MY REACH
PATRONUS:
- The strongest and happiest memory Levi has is the last moment he spent in France and the first moments he spent in the United Kingdom, inside the British Ministry of Magic. Levi's family was moved back to France from Poland using a portkey. In France they were moved to a secluded location in the northern parts of the country, far from Paris. In Northern France, after the portkey they used the floo network to travel to the British Ministry of Magic. There Levi, his siblings, and muggle parents were welcomed by a few His memory extends the entire teleportation scheme from Poland to Northern France to the United Kingdom. It was the first time in a very long time that any of them had felt safe. Levi was relieved, and happy. At the present time Levi cannot produce a Patronus charm. However, his animal would take after a cottontail tamarin. He saw the freedom the animals had when he was a child and roamed their cage. He would be quite surprised to see his patronus.
- Levi has many bad memories. He tries his best to not dwell upon the past. However, after processing his bad memories one, even though not as brutal as others, overtakes the rest of his worst memory. His worst memory was being home with his family and every one of them, including himself being arrested. He couldn't defend himself, not even with magic, as he was never taught many defense spells. His family was arrested by the Vichy (French Police) and locked in a stadium in the heart of France to be handed over to the Germans. This takes his worst memory as it is of the time of where several hardships had begun. This was the prologue memory to being in a prison camp, to watching people he grew up with as a child die, to seeing more violence then he had ever thought possible. This bad memory of Levi's gave him enormous drive in the several months following the events. It made him desire to become a better wizard, a better person, a stronger person, so he could defend not only himself but his loved ones.
- If someone asked Levi what he sees in the Mirror of Erised, Levi would simply tell them a simple story. He would explain that he sees himself, with his wand outstretched with a large smile on his face to be happy. To see himself as he was at the present time. He had learned to accept the past and knows it couldn't be changed so he wants to focus on the future. In reality, Levi sees himself back seventy-seven years in the past with his family at a park in London with large grins on all their faces. He misses his family dearly, it stole his heart to realize that most of his family was dead and passed. It is his deepest desire to see his family once again. But, he knows it won't happen, knows it is only false hope, so he would continue to go with his false story until he completely came to believe in it. Over the last few months, Levi had made great strides in making himself believe his deepest desire was to be happy and convinced himself to accept the present.
- Fears can attack one when they least expect it. When Levi thinks of his fears he could only call forth a few, but, in reality he has a list that is growing and shrinking as he ages. He had lived through some of the most fearful days of his life, more then many could ever expect. He fears spiders, and simply does not like spiders at all. He fears his past more then most things. One of his largest fears at the present is seeing the Death Eaters rise to power once again. He knows some strange things have been going on. He had learned of the war, and encountered a few purebloods whom harassed his muggle like nature. He heard of the horrors the First and Second Wizarding Wars brought upon Britain and he could relate to it from his past. The purity wars seemed to be history repeating itself. On top of a fear of simple and large things, spiders is the only fear he'd openly admit he has along with his fear of moths and wild mice. He has a strong fear and dislike of trains as he was trapped in one when he was a teenager.
- Smells that attracts the young man would defiantly be fresh air. He loves the feeling of openness, the air being fresh, the smell of the trees. The smell of warm food always grabs his attention, as long as it isn't veal stew. Freshly brewed coffee is such a strong smell that it widens his eyes and pushes a smile to his face. A smell that drives him nuts and if attached to a cute guy with would be strawberry. If a cute guy used a strawberry smelling shampoo, it would drive the hormones of Levi up the walls.
- [*]Driven, he is a very driven young mind that strives to move forward.
[*]Intelligence. Levi is book smart, and smart from practice. He strives to be his best.
[*]Loyalty. Levi is a very loyal person to those whom earn his trust.
[*]Protective. Levi is a very protective young individual.
[*]Strong spirit, he has a very strong spirit. It has never been broken, and always rebounded.
[*]Great listener, he has always been good at listening place.
[*]Willing to ask for help. Being able to ask for help offers a great advantage when it comes to his academics.
- [*]Stubbornness, he can be pretty stubborn when it comes to things. If he has a set view, he rarely will back down from it. He is willing to listen however.
[*]Hides his pain. Levi has learned a great deal at hiding his emotional pain. The pain can rip apart at him, pieces at a time. He can also hide his physical pain, but, he just really overlooks it.
[*]Defensive. Even though it can be a strength, he'd protect his integrity no matter what. He will sometimes go a step too far. He however very rarely gets violent.
[*]The past. He doesn't want to dwell in it, but it does come back to him. When his past comes back to him it attacks his emotional stability.
[*]Withdrawal, he has issues, usually on anniversaries of certain dates. He'd mainly just space out, or lose a moment or two in time.
[*]Levi can be a bit stubborn.
- [*]French accent. Levi has a French accent. He had learned English at a young age and has a mastery of the language, however, his French accent and a few words of the language does break through.
[*]He is in absolute love with strawberries, almost as if a fetish.
[*]He collects Famous Witch/Wizard Cards. He once had a decent collection of them. Now, he is trying to rebuild a collection.
[*]Running. He likes to run. It is a hobby, sport, and a pastime for him.
[*]When bored he taps his fingers constantly on desks. It can get annoying in classes and he'd need to be told to stop.
[*]He constantly chews on his necklace.
[*]He constantly can be found rubbing his left forearm, where the numbers are tattooed onto his skin.
- [*]Sports like Quidditch. He is a fan of magical sports, and always have been since he was young.
[*]French wine. He's french. Don't blame him. He is relieved to finally be sixteen, and allowed to have alcohol in some muggle establishments. He's French, he grew up with the wine. He misses it dearly.
[*]Running. One of his hobbies and pastimes. He loves to run through the castle and around the grounds.
[*]Strawberries. He is in complete absolute love with strawberries. They are his favorite food and his favorite smell.
[*]Dancing. He doesn't know very many of the modern dances, but, he had always found them fun. Ladies and boys alike are more then welcome to drag him out under the stars to do a quick dance.
[*]Chocolate Frogs & Cards. He likes to eat the frogs. He likes to collect the cards.
[*]Fast & Americanized Food. Americans had an influence on society when he was growing up, but, their influence in the modern world is drastic. Food choices spread. Levi sees food he has never dreamed of. He loves how instant muggle food is, cooked fast enough to compete with magical means.
[*]Reading. He loves to read. He has books in both English and French. Though, a majority of his collection is English.
[*]Wandless magic. He's obsessed with it. He wants to learn to defend himself without need of a wand. But, he is not powerful enough and can only do simple things like make his wand or pen rise to his hand like as a broom would do when saying "up".
[*]History. He is fascinated by history. He lived through such a large part of it that it holds a strong interest to him even to the modern day.
[*]Breakfast. He had never been a big eater in the mornings. If he eats in the morning, it is likely because he's forced to or a friend simply tells me to take a bite of something.
[*]Burnt food. Who wants to eat food thats been burned?
[*]Asian cuisine. He never liked asian food, especially Chinese.
[*]Skunks. There was an incident when he was a child...
[*]Forgetful. He hates forgetting something. Sometimes forgetting things is a blessing, especially with Levi. But, he'd much rather to remember everything.
[*]Camps of any sort, even summer camps. They remind him of concentration camps. He spent time in one. He'd even refuse to travel back to Poland to see the ruins.
[*]Nightmares. He gets brutal nightmares and has since he was fifteen. He tries his best to ignore them.
[*]Extremely hot days. He enjoys fall much, much, more then the summer.
[*]Bugs. Spiders are the worst animals to live in his opinion. The only bugs he can accept are butterflies.
[*]Politics. It tires him. He had seen his government fail once. He had seen the French government and the law enforcement fail to protect their citizens. He does respect the governments, but, he expects them to protect and do whats best for the people and the country. Not mere war politics.
[*]Synagogues. Even though he is Jewish, he feels that his God has betrayed him. He feels betrayed by his religion and questions his faith. He refuses to step inside the holy grounds of his religion he grew up in.
[*]Hebrew. He's Jewish born. He knows he is. But, being magical pushed his religion aside so he could focus on learning the mysteries of magic. He never liked the language and always had trouble trying to learn it. It is a part of him, but, he doesn't enjoy the language at all. He finds the language too crude.
- Ever since a young age Levi had always been a clever, resourceful, and intelligent person. He always sat and thought his tactics through and enjoyed going to school. He fell in love with reading and sitting on his father's lap as they read books in front of the fireplace. Unlike other muggleborns, he did not grow up with a television in his early years, and did not personally have one in his home until he was twelve. He was thrilled when his sister showed signs of magic and got a visitor on her eleventh birthday. The recruiter said there was a chance that her siblings, such as Levi, had a chance to go to Beauxbatons as well. He used to sneak into his older sister's room and steal her books, including the magical ones. He always had a strong interest in their history. Simply put, Levi was a young book nerd. His parents were literate people and gave him access to renowned names like Jane Austen, Voltaire, Plato, Shakespeare, and many others.
As he grew up, his family grew worrisome seeing he was different from his siblings. His siblings had been highly social, but, he himself was not. They tried to get him to be more outgoing, but, did not have much time with it. He was lucky to have a family with a comfortable existence, a small nest egg of wealth. They offered him anything he desired. They lived a comfortable life and were good parents whom spent a lot of time with their kids. He loved spending the time outside with his father throwing around a ball, running, playing random games that they had picked up. His father was a runner as well, so they would spend their mornings skipping breakfast (that annoyed his mother very much) and spend an hour or so running around the city streets of Paris. It was noticed that Levi could get very attached to people, as he done with his father.
He is an extremely determined and devoted man. He will prioritize things by importance to himself. He had strong ambition, but, his ambition is easily overriden and blinded by love. When he loves someone, he's willing to go all out for them. He won't question his loyalty to them. Levi has a strong drive to push him forward. He has bad memories that make him want to better himself which helps him push himself further. He is very loyal to anyone whom has earned his trust, or to a cause he had devoted himself to.
Levi fears the French government even to the modern day. He feels strongly that they have failed to protect their citizens and their citizen's rights. He witnessed the Vichy (French Police) arresting himself and his family just for their beliefs. He was raised Jewish and even had a bar mitzvah the very day he turned thirteen. With magic entering his life, from his sister first showing signs of it to himself showing an interest in magic; his family never questioned their faith and viewed it as a gift from God. They saw it as his sister was gifted with a great gift. When Levi ended up showing magic as well, his parents felt overwhelmingly proud. They made him promise he would only use it for good, for God's will. After the events of the Viv d'Hiv Roundup, the long train, the concentration camp.
In the present time he is a very curious person. Levi wonders how new muggle technology works. He wants to know what happened and how the muggles have evolved their society as it was so much different from what he remembers. He'd like to trade what little currency he has to try and buy a muggle gadget when he's at home over a break. However, adjusting to them is hard. He is like a teenager learning a brand new piece of software.
He does have a conflicted personality. He tells people he does miss the past. He wonders what life could have been like if his accident never happened. However, a deep secret he is afraid to admit is the fact he really doesn't want to go back into the past. He knows he doesn't want to go back and he hates himself for it. He was relieved when a time turner test wouldn't work with him any longer. Even though he drastically misses his family, he finds the future much more appealing and now his present time. He is determined to make it his own time.
Levi is homosexual. He knew he was since he was fourteen. He realized it when his hormones came up and he and his friends started showing interest in sexuality and sexual things. His friends would beckon about the ladies, but, Levi never felt the same and felt different. He felt he liked males more, and thought he'd just grow out of it. It wasn't until he was fifteen years old and socked in the jaw of when he learned what he really was, a homosexual. His sister told his parents and they told him it was okay. At the time, in 1942 the British weren't very accepting but the French people were.
In the present time he is lost and confused. He still suffers from nightmares and is having trouble adjusting to his new life. He's overly curious and always has been and his personality is starting to show what his dominant traits are after being displaced into a new time that he does not know anything about. He has been having sleepless nights and been pushing himself too far trying to avoid sleep, to avoid the nightmares until late hours into the night. Levi is separated and really feels he needs new friends. He lost everything and everyone he ever really cared about. He's having a tough time adjusting to the modern day.
IF MY POUNDING IMPULSE COMES
--------------------WRAPPED UP INSIDE YOUR ARMS...
NATIONALITY:
- Levi is French. Parisian to be exact. His family roots deep into France's history for several generations. His deepest history is untraceable, but it is possible he had an ancestor from the Israelite lands. But, he appears just as the French do and has common traits. He gave up his French citizenship in 1942 and became a citizen of the United Kingdom.
- Levi was born in Paris, France. He had lived there until he was fifteen years old. He currently lives in an foster home in London, England.
- Levi has hardly any currency of his own. He really cannot afford to pay for a meal in Hogsmeade as normal teenagers could. He does have a small nest egg due to his old galleons were traded up in value. He is saving these for school supplies that his host family wouldn't purchase so he can purchase behind their backs.
- Levi Luwaby loved his family. He loved his parents, his father, mother, and son. He loved sitting on his father's lap reading a book that interested both of them. His random run-ins with his sister where he'd steal her diary and learn her deepest secrets. He would help his younger sister out with anything she wanted. Levi was there for his family, always was. He wishes dearly he could have defended them against the Vichy. His parents passed both away in the 1970s; his younger sister passed away in 2009, and his older sister passed away in 1999. He never got to see any of them again. All he saw was their graves. It has been 77 years since he last seen his family, and he dearly misses them.
Mother: Adrienne Rivette, muggle, deceased since 1972.
Father: Jacob Leif Lubel, muggle, deceased since 1975.
Sister: Astrid Rousseau, muggleborn, older sister by 2 years, deceased since 1999.
Sister: Christina Devul, muggleborn, younger sister by 3 years, deceased since 2009.
Brother-in-law: Robert Rousseau, half-blood, married to Astrid, deceased since 1984.
Brother-in-law: Adrien Devul, half-blood, married to Christina, deceased since 1992.
Nephew: Cody Rousseau, half-blood, son of Astrid, deceased since 2019.
Niece: Ariel Adrienne Rousseau, half-blood, daughter of Astrid, living. Currently in a retirement home, she has dementia.
Nephew: Levi Jacob Devul, half-blood, son of Christina. Deceased 2020. Named after Levi, he was born 6 months after Levi's disappearance.
- Levi is single. In fact, he had only gone on a total of three dates with a muggle boy he liked back in Paris. He never had a long term relationship, and he would really love to have a boyfriend one day.
- Once Levi had a cat that he shared with his little sister. However, the cat is long gone. Currently he does not have any pets because he cannot afford to have one. He had always wanted to have an owl and he nearly had enough money to purchase one.
- On the afternoon of the third day of February in the year of 1927, two people whom were a wondrous example of a great and happy couple had their second child whom they named Levi Leif Lubel. His first name was for his great grandfather (father's father's father) and middle name was from his father's. As an infant he loved to stay up at night and was quite the noisy baby. He would never let his parents sleep for more then an hour at a time. Raising him through his infancy was hard on his parents and different compared to their first child. He loved to sleep during the day and stay up all night. It was difficult on his parents chasing a toddler, his sister during the day and soothing him, a crying baby at night.
He was raised by his mother mostly, as his father worked during the days. He felt surrounded by girls, especially after his younger sister Christina came along. He was extremely jealous of his younger sister, Christina. He was excited when his mother was having another child, but, he so badly wanted it to be a boy. He didn't want another girl. It was enough for him to only see another boy when out in public or when his father got home. At a young age, Levi had some serious gender issues. He eventually warmed up to his younger sister and forgot all about wanting a brother. But, he would demand some "men time" with his father away from his sisters.
He was raided in a Jewish faith along with his sisters. They went to lessons and school. Their parents sent them to a great school and they learned everything from language, to math, to science, to history. They even learned English while in school. It cost their parents a pretty time and made money a bit tighter for them. Hence, they had no true savings as they poured everything into their children's well being. Their father worked in an investment firm and the booming oil industry that was taking off in the Americas, England, and France. They took advantage of the booming industries and made some very wise investments. As Levi grew older, so did his family's wealth. They weren't millionaires, but, they were wealthy enough to afford the luxuries of what they wanted such as a new television set when they were so rare.
When he was seven years old he got to go to the zoo for the first time with his family. He and his younger sister got separated from their family and gotten lost together. They did not realize they were lost and that their parents were going frantic trying to find them. Needless to say, the two had quite an adventure. They went on exploring the zoo and eventually found themselves in the cage of some exciting monkeys. These monkeys were small, a group of cottontail tamarains, which is now the Patronus of Levi. Later that day when their parents were chewing them out at home, and grounding them both, Astrid freaked out and the window of their shared bedroom exploded. It was her first sign of magic. The parents freaked out, and wondered what happened. They passed it off as a freak of nature or a rock being thrown.
When Levi was nine years old, a year and a half after the events of the zoo a strange woman dressed in bright blue robes that seemed to sparkle under the sun showed up at their home. This strange woman claimed she was from a place in Cannes called Beauxbatons Academy of Magic. She asked the family to gather in the living room as she had some business to speak with them. The family agreed and all three of the children were very curious of what was going on and why there was a strange woman in their home. This woman explained that the incident of the window was an act of magic, and other things such as plants that haven't been water gotten watered, and other incidents that seemed to involve the weird events that happened around Astrid.
The woman came back the next day and took them to a busy shopping center in the heart of Paris that they have never noticed. It was a strange place and none of them could believe the location as it was within walking distance of their home. The things they saw were overwhelming. An entire new world was opened up to them. They saw things they thought were utterly impossible. However, the strange lady from Cannes told them to not tell others about it in order to protect their magical world. All of them had learned of the witch hunts in the old days back from school. The lady of Cannes also told the family to watch Levi and Christina as they may show signs of magic as well.
His older sister, Astrid became curious and asked the lady why they get the ability and not others. She stated that she hasn't heard of anything similar in the Torah, besides what God had himself. The Beauxbatons lady replied, "It is not a testament of your faith. It is a gift from god for you to do great things." Levi remembered the words to the present day and continues lives by them. The Beauxbatons lady, whom was named Brigitte became one of Levi's heroes.
The stories he heard from his sister were unbelievable. He was very interested in the sport, quidditch and asked several questions about it.His sister was so sure he would get magic too, she even broke the school rules and loaned him her wand to try and get him to do magic. He was never successful. Finally in on the first day of December 1937, on the fourth day of Hanukkah he was tasked with lighting the candle. His father lit the first one, and handed him the candle to light the others as tradition had stated. Wax fell down and hit his finger and burned his finger. He dropped the candle on the floor as a reaction to the burn and it caused a small fire to erupt. He was scared and jumped back only to discover that a stream of water came from his hands and put the fire out. It was his first sign of magic. His entire family was overjoyed he received the gift as well, nobody was happier then Astrid.
In the summer of 1938 the same lady from Beauxbatons came back to pick Levi up for his trip to the school. He had done his shopping and got his very first wand. It was very different then Brigitte's and Astrid's and was a more unique design because of the curve it had. But, the wand choose him. His younger sister, Christina wanted to eat, so his parents went with her to get something eat. Levi, Astrid, and the lady from Beauxbatons Academy walked around alone. Astrid finally broke the random questions Levi had been asking about their world and asked the lady what a mudblood was. The lady shook her head and didn't lie. She said there were people pushing for blood superiority, and did not like muggleborns got magic. She explained it was something for them not to worry about.
After much discussion, the woman decided to strike a deal with Levi. He would tell nobody he's muggleborn, and hopefully they would leave him alone. Brigitte spent most of the summer afternoons over at their house teaching him and all his siblings of the magical world. She taught them normal things magical kids would know. By doing this they weren't behind in school and they knew basic stuff and would seem normal. However, the smarter kids that thought things through would be able to tell they were muggleborns, but, it helped them with the ones that didn't think things through and the bullies long enough for them to settle in.
The first year at Beauxbatons Academy of Magic was strange to him. There were so many females there, and very few males. He had wondered why there were so many girls, but he never questioned it. He remembered what his parents told him, and they told him to work hard for his gift so he could do great things with it, the same the Beauxbatons lady had said. He took an instant liking to History of Magic and Charms. He did very well in the two subjects for his first year. His weakest subject for that year was Transfiguration.
By his second year, when he was twelve, the year of 1939 he picked up in Transfiguration and Astronomy, both becoming his strongest class and Charms dropped down to his weakest. His strongest class of them all remained History of Magic. At the end of the year his Charms professor, whom happened to be the lady, Brigitte that introduced them to the magical world told him she expected more of him. She came over a few times during the summer of 1940 when he was thirteen, just a young teenager. She gave him books in Charms, and showed him the simple tricks. She allowed him and Brigitte to use magic out of school only for when she was there teaching them. "Why are you teaching us, we're not supposed to be doing this?" Levi asked one night.
"There are very few muggleborns at Beauxbatons. Levi, you're the only one in your year. Astrid has one as a roommate. Magical parents usually help their children in the summers in schooling because they are magical homes and are exposed to it. You two aren't. I live nearby, so coming over is no problem to help you two to catch up. Besides, you'd need to teach your little sister." The professor became one of Levi's favorites and she continued to help them every summer until they moved to the United Kingdom.
His third year that begun in the year of 1940 he had showed a remarkable talent for academics. Charms became his top class once again and he had done very well in Transfiguration, History of Magic, Muggle Studies, Astronomy, Herbology, and Potions. He had become a very well rounded student. He had hardly any social life and spent a lot of time with the professor Brigitte in her office hours learning from her in a verity of subjects. It gave him a minor advantage, but, Levi was genuinely curious of all the classes. Levi never showed any interest in the Dueling or the Divination classes so hence he never took them.
The Muggle Studies professor spoke of how the muggles tried to replace magic with ever-growing technological fields that kept shrinking their small world. He thought it was funny and found himself landing a detention a few times for random snorts of laughter. He felt the class was easy because he was a muggle. But, he was proven wrong as Muggle Studies was much more about learning of the muggles world, but, how the magical world interacted with it. The teacher was fascinated in him and pulled him after class constantly asking him to explain things that he thought were simple. She would dock off time from his detention hours in exchange for the answers. He sometimes wondered if his detentions were only given to him for he could answer the professor's questions.
His fourth year that begun in 1941 was much more exciting to him then the others. Finally, his little sister got to go to the school. It was Astrid's final year as well. He was thrilled to have them come to school, and loved the fact that there was more family around him. Though, he was disappointed to only realize there were only one boy in his sister's year. Levi had it tough enough being one of the only three males of his year. Six males of the year above him. He never understood why the magical families in France seemed to mostly have daughters. Though, it didn't seem to apply to Astrid's year that was nearly half male.
When December came around the Muggle Studies professor became very curious of their religion. Hanukkah fell early in the year beginning on December 14, 1941. The entire holiday fell within the school year so the children were separated from their parents. The professor was fascinated by the holiday when Levi explained it in class when they were discussing religion of the muggles. Levi identified himself openly of being a Jewish muggleborn. None of his classmates had a problem with it, as he proven himself to be magical enough.
The Muggle Studies professor worked with Brigitte and arranged for them to have a meal outside of the massive hall where they usually ate. They used an empty large room for it. Many of the young witches and wizards from the Muggle Studies class showed up wanting to know more of the tradition. Even a few of the professors from other subjects came along interested in what it was. Levi and his sisters never felt that way before. Everyone seemed to be fascinated by whom he was, the fact he was Jewish. A few of the children asked him his thoughts on the war. Levi couldn't come up with an answer and merely asked, "What war?" He never knew about the German invasion. His family and guardians sheltered him and his siblings from the knowledge.
As the second half of his school year went on in 1942 a girl, his best friend, became curious of why he wasn't acting funny around her as the other few boys had done. Levi shrugged and had no idea. The school year went strong and he enjoyed himself. When it came to the end of the school year he was one of the top academic students for the fourth years. The fifteen year old was dragged to the dance by a few of his housemates, the girls mainly. They danced with him, doing several different things. Had him teach them dances, and vice versa. He had a lot of fun.
Out of nowhere, his gut told him to go ask one of the guys, a year older then him to dance. He done so and asked the sixteen year old. He laughed and said sure. It was seemingly some of the best few moments of his young life. That was until Levi kissed the other guy. He felt an impulse to do so and had his reaction returned with a clutched fist to his right jaw. It was then when he realized he was gay. His friends just laughed it off and it became forgotten.
Summer came and his best friend set him up on a date with boy she knew. The two met up and the date went well even though it was just a cheesy day walking around the heart of Paris. The two went and had a second date that went well as well. His third date went well as well and ended with his first, real, kiss of affection. It is the kiss Levi considers his first. He was proud to call the man he was with his boyfriend. Though, the relationship did not last long as just a few mere days after the third date he was arrested.
At five am on the morning of July 16, 1942 they heard banging on their door. It was the Vichy, the French Police. They were demanding to be let in. His older and younger sister were off visiting their grandparents so it was only Levi and his parents that were home. The French arrested them all. Levi never had a chance to run to his room and retrieve his wand from under the floorboards. They were taken to a Drancy Interment Camp in Paris. None of them knew about the existence of a camp for the Jewish and none of them ever had a chance to escape.
They were offered very little food. One of the Vichy was a neighbor and a good family friend. He was terrified of what was happening and pulled Levi and his family aside for a second noticing his sisters were missing. He told them he'd carry the message of what he knew to Astrid. Luckily, Astrid figured out what was happening and went back with some of her wizard friends and emptied their home and removed the magical artifacts. Astrid tried, but, she couldn't find Levi or her parents. They were terrified, but, luckily they were not separated. He was confused and wondered why fellow Frenchmen would allow such a thing to happen, to hand them over to the Germans. But, he later understood they were just terrified and ordered to.
Just a little over 13,000 Jewish people were arrested. Their homes emptied and resold off. Most of the Jews lost everything. Who they were, what they were. Their homes. Processions. Everything they've ever known was stripped from them. After a few days at the Drancy Interment Camp they were sent off on a long grueling train ride to some other camp he was never sure of the name. It made him afraid of trains. He never wanted to go back onto the train. It happened to be in Poland, the Auschwitz Birkenau German Nazi Concentration and Extermination Camp. It was completely embarrassing for him to be stripped nude many times in front of soldiers, and in a crowd.
They were finally separated. He was put with his father and his mother was taken somewhere else. They were ordered to roll up their left arm sleeves and they've done so and stood in a long line. Eventually they realized what was happening. Levi realized he was going to be branded with a tattoo, numbers on his forearm. They done so. He was given the number, 69613. His uniform/outfit had new patches added to it along with his number and a yellow triangle.
After a total of six weeks of being gone from home, on the date of August 29, 1942 his sister showed up at the camp him and his father were in. She came with several other wizards, including Brigitte and their Muggle Studies professor. They broke Levi and his father free. It was tough on her and her fellow wizards to break into such a place, and they needed to be quiet to get in and out quickly. They had used invisibility charms and illusions to get through. They had rescued Levi and his father. His mother was not in the same camp as they got separated. His sister stated they already found her. It was a lucky break, all three survived.
It pained them when they had to cast a memory charm on so many muggles, that would most likely face their death. Astrid handed Levi his wand back and his Charms professor, Brigitte instructed him in what to do with his wand. He had to cast a memory charm along with them. Levi spoke just loud enough for the people standing by him to hear. "God, forgive me." He cast the memory charm on his targets, and continued to do so until the prisoners became confused and forgot whom they were. Levi wanted to do more, and argued they should. They agreed to take some of the children. So they've took a few of the children and took off before they had a chance to be discovered. They became a small part of the just over 800 people whom ever escaped, far fewer then the survivors.
He wanted to do more, but his sister's boyfriend whom was an auror explained that they couldn't and that they would be no match for the army and probably will be arrested by other aurors for invading another country. They were a small part of the just over 800 that ever escaped. The time in the camp was the worst time of his life. His body was so badly beaten and he was starving. Same for his parents. The images they saw were terrifying, the things they saw were terrifying. He was subject to much more beatings then the rest.
With help from his sister's boyfriend and his connections within the French Ministry of Magic and the professors, Levi and his family were given new names and identities. They changed their last names from Lubel to Luwaby. They were going to change their first names for privacy reasons and Levi was to be Calvin Gareth, but, his father argued saying they should at least keep their names. It was decided that they would keep their given names, but, not surnames. They spent a few hours in France after arriving back from the portkey in Poland. In France they used brooms to fly to a secluded location in the northern parts of the country, far from Paris and the tight reigns of the Vichy.
They got their new paperwork and used the Floo Network to travel to the British Ministry of Magic. It was the last time Levi saw his professors and friends in France. His sister's boyfriend came along as well, along with a few of the French saviors to clear up details. Arriving in the British Ministry of Magic and being introduced to new British people to help settle them in was a relief for the family. It was the first time Levi felt safe in quite a while. He was still having trouble processing of what happened and was glad to be gone, and escaped from France.
The Ministry of Magic made arrangements to start Levi's fifth year of schooling and his sister's Christina's second year. They went to Diagon Alley with an escort to learn the reigns of how things worked in the country. His parents found a flat in London. They begun to rebuild their lives. When September came along they had to take the Hogwarts Express. Levi freaked out seeing the train and refused to get onto it. Eventually his younger sister grabbed his hand and dragged him onto the train and told him not to worry. Levi stayed up the entire time, staring out the window. He was ready to jump through the window the second anything happened. It annoyed his sister that he constantly opened and closed the window to make sure it worked.
He settled in very well at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Him and his sister had a private sorting ceremony in the Headmaster's office. At the time the headmaster was Armando Dippet and Albus Dumbledore was just a Transfiguration professor. His classmates grew curious of whom he was, and Levi simply smiled and kept to himself. It wasn't long before the ones familiar with the muggle history and the muggle world pieced together why Levi started so late. They knew he was French and from Beauxbatons. He was teased now and then being asked by the males about how the many ladies were and either was he one or not as there seemed to be an assumption that the French magical school was all female. Rumors begun that he was a refuge from the war after one of the fellow muggleborns spoke about his tattoo on his left forearm. Levi felt ashamed of it and wore long-sleeve shirts and robes for the majority of the school year.
He did not allow his mind to dwell on the events that happened. He never fully processed it and just pushed it off. Levi focused on his studies, proving to be just as capable at Hogwarts as he was at Beauxbatons. He held high marks in Charms, Transfiguration, History of Magic, Ancient Runes, Arithmancy, Herbology, Potions and Astronomy. He took Muggle Studies and Divination as well, interested in the classes and had a few advance courses. He had so many courses on his plate that he was given a time turner a few weeks into the school year. He had to make promise to not abuse it and only use it for academic reasons. Levi used it often, and a full day of activities made it easier for him to not process what happened.
He had always found Hogsmeade to be a great getaway. One weekend on Saturday June 26, 1943 Levi went to Hogsmeade with a sack of galleons to buy himself some sweets and a new bottle of ink. He bought the ink first and was making his way to the Three Broomsticks to get a drink when he was confronted by some boys whom had harassed him a few times previous. Another set of boys came out and threatened the others. A duel broke out in between them all and some begun laughing at Levi for not jumping in. Levi freaked out and grabbed his time turner, which none of them knew he had, to try and escape. One of the boys laughed at him grabbing a simple necklace and went to disarm him while others pointed their wands at him and started casting random spells. An adult appeared behind him and was casting something he had never heard of and a few of the boys ran in fear.
Levi's time turner turned away and he was hit with magic from the adult behind him and a few spells from the boys in front of him. He was thrown around violently and next thing he knew he was in the same spot of Hogsmeade, but, in a different time. He was confused and disoriented that he collapsed to the ground smashing the ink bottle. A shopkeeper from Honeydukes, the shop he was in front of, saw him appear out of nowhere and collapse to the ground. She ran out to help him and he lost consciousness. Next thing he remembers was waking up in the hospital wing of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. When he came around a professor begun asking him questions. "Boy, what is your name? Where are you from?"
It took Levi a few moments to come through and to finally answer the questions. "Levi Luwaby. I'm from here? I was under attack and only way to escape was my time turner... next thing I know... here? Where am I?" Levi looked around noticing subtle differences. It took him several seconds to realize he was back inside Hogwarts. "I'm back in Hogwarts? Did I miss all of Hogsmeade weekend?" He was clearly confused and had lost track of time.
"It is Saturday, the twenty-eighth boy. Hogsmeade weekend is ongoing. But, who are you? You're from here? I never seen you around." The professor continued to ask him questions. Levi sat, shaking his head and kept insisting he was from Hogwarts and thought the professor was delusional. As far as Levi knew he was from Hogwarts and was just in Hogsmeade the night before. The night before is when it snapped to him.
"Found the night before? Wait... what? It's Sunday... not Saturday?" After a few more rounds of questions Levi was coming through. Finally, Levi came up with a question that confused the professor, "What year is it?" The professor laughed and told him he should know as the year was 2020. Levi shook his head and didn't believe it. "2020? Impossible. Just before I erm... lost consciousness it was Saturday the twenty-sixth of June 1943." The professor grabbed the necklace on his bedside, the damaged time turner with the shattered hourglass. "Don't go anywhere." Levi couldn't go anywhere and lost consciousness again. The professor left with the time turner.
Levi woke up with a stimulant spell from the school nurse. The professor returned with a set of standard school robes and told him to get dressed. He acknowledged and listened. He was taken to the Headmaster's office and there they used a portkey to go to the Ministry of Magic. It has been a long time since Levi been to the Ministry. As far as he was concerned, it felt only as if it were a year... not the seventy-seven years he was gone. At the Ministry of Magic he spoke to a group of people in a conference room. A few were Unspeakables, others were just agents from the Minister of Magic's office or other departments. A few aurors. There was a wide verity of people there, investigating him.
After several questions one woman spoke up and made a ruling. "Mr. Luwaby. According to our records you went missing in 1943, never returned back to the castle from Hogsmeade. Extensive searches were made you were never found. You were assumed dead and missing. However, in accordance to our statues, you used your time turner against advisement as a means to escape from an armed conflict which could have drastic side effects. The Unspeakables inform me that you cannot be returned, even if we tried. You may no longer use a time turner, even though they would no longer work for you, and you are to begin your sixth year of schooling in the start." As the woman spoke others in the room nodded and took notes, heeding every word she said.
One person whom identified himself as an Unspeakable pulled him aside and handed him a time turner. He had instructed Levi to turn the time turner back to just moments before. The Unspeakable seemed to wanted to prove his theory. His theory was correct, Levi was now out of time and couldn't use the time turner. The device did not work. The Unspeakable twisted the time piece himself and grabbed onto Levi only to disappear and Levi to remain standing looking like a fool. It was proven that time pieces would no longer work on him.
The Unspeakable spent time with him that day, catching him up with history and what he had missed. He had explained his family and that his parents and siblings are now deceased. The Unspeakable had arranged a meeting with Levi's so-called niece and found him a foster home in London that would help him readjust to society. "Back at Hogwarts you will be taking extra courses after hours with the professor that brought you to us. They will be catching you up from our old standards." They went on speaking about changes to the world. Levi was most interested in the muggle world and how things had changed. The Unspeakable then handed him back his wand and sack of galleons he was carrying.
His older sister's daughter, his niece had dementia and couldn't help them out very well. However, her son, Levi's great-nephew whom inherited her house still had his clothes locked in the attic. When the family learned he was living they were eager to meet with him. It was a shock to them as he looked just like the photographs they had. They offered him the things they had left. They said they never had the heart to get rid of his belongings in his trunk. His trunk contained his old school books, clothes, even his prisoner outfit from the concentration camps. He even found a bag of galleons in it, that he was surprised that was still in the trunk. It was as if they left his things untouched. His niece gave him copies of several photographs of the family over the year in an album. Levi treasures the album.
It was a drastic change for him to get used to the new air in the populated areas, such as London, as it was so thick and caused horrible allergies. He is in complete love with fresh air. It took him several days to adjust to the air. He spent time with his foster family getting to know them and trying to get to know the world around him. He was encouraged to go out and explore, but, to be very careful. For the first few weeks they went with him, navigating the busy streets. The many cars shocked him as the traffic seemed unbearable then what he last saw. Several people held devices in their hands for typing and devices to their ears. Everything confused him. He didn't even know what something as simple as a celleur phone was. The only device he was able to work that was muggle technology was a remote.
Levi had still not processed the horrors of the Holocaust of what he witnessed and was apart of. But, many of the people he encountered already knew his story and why he was an out of place French teenager in the United Kingdom. The tattoo on his forearm gave him away. One evening his foster parents told him they could take him to St. Mungo's to get the numbers from his arm removed. Levi thought about it, and then declined. He spent time pouring over history books they had in the home and learned what had happened. The roots were far deeper then he had first imagined. "This... is part of who I am. I survived horrors. I'm a survivor. This... unspeakable taboo reminds me that I am a survivor." Levi rubbed his left forearm, feeling the numbers outline as if they were being burnt into his skin. The tattoo still looked young, which was impressive but understandable as he had skipped so much time.
He had a bag of galleons on him when he was using the time turner due to being in Hogsmeade. He went by Gringotts with his host family the goblins offered him several galleons for each one of his due to his currency was worth much more. He had another bag of galleons in his trunk, but, the goblins gave him more then he needed at the time. His host family told him that his school supplies were paid for already and he could just keep his money for something like Hogsmeade. He smiled and pocketed the new galleons the goblins gave him. He was given about three galleons and eight sickles for each galleon he had. One galleon for each sickle he had. And five sickles for each knut he had. It added up to be a large number for any teen to enjoy, but, not enough to make a living off of.
Levi is still seeking to settle into a new brave world. He's not a dumb kid and he is catching up pretty well academically and performing well in his classes so far in September and October 2020. His extra classes to catch up were a great help to him. Levi found himself spending massive amounts of time reading mainly muggle books trying to catch up with what had happened in their world. The new world confuses him. He's now an orphan living with foster parents, some family willing to help him. He still has a French accent and his British citizenship due to being granted asylum years ago to escape war-torn France. His knowledge is considered "old" so he is having some trouble with adjusting.
He is overly curious of how things changed. He's a bit downed he cannot go back to see his family. But, he had accepted as before the past is the past. Levi rebounds hard and he was rebounding now. He was used to living under the constant threat of war. Now, it felt normal, and safe. His skills in Defense Against the Dark Arts however are lacking. Several of the curses being discussed and taught did not exist back when he was going to school and were only invented in the last few Wizarding Wars. In fact, he never really had a strong defense class.
