the basics
character name ; Iwan Gareth Rhydderch
nickname(s) ; He goes by his first name, Iwan Some of his family will call him by his middle name, generally his parents when they have the wrath of anger is on their side. Iwan has no known nickname, unless it is n insult.
age ; Sixteen years old.
date of birth ; August 7, 1993.
blood status ; He is a half-blood.
sexual orientation; The young Iwan was bi-curious for a short while, but, he came to the realization he is a young homosexual, a closeted homosexual. However, as of his sixth year at Hogwarts he is out in the open and does not hide his sexuality from friends and family.
wand ; At this time Iwan has a simple wand that is only ten and three quarter inches. It is made of Mahogany wood and has a phoenix feather for a core. However, there is this wand at an antiques shop he has taken a liking to and is thinking of making an offer for.
affiliation ; Iwan would most likely follow the strive of his family's affiliation, and fight against the dark wizards, to truly free them all. He would support the Order, and possibly join it in the far future. However, if he had a choice, he would stand back as long as he could. There is no greater evil then good men whom do nothing, he knows this, it would plague his thoughts, but, he would need to be pushed to take action.
the appearance
height & weight ; Iwan Rhydderch is a thin young man, whom holds a small but growing body build. He is not yet at his potential height or weight, because of that fact, he currently stands at the height of five feet and ten inches. When he was fourteen years of age he experienced a growing spurt; a few times a year he would need to replace his wardrobe to keep up with his new body size. Iwan currently weighs eight point seven stones (hundred and thirty-seven pounds).
Iwan has gained three inches so far being fifteen years old. By the time he's sixteen years old he will be about five feet and nine inches. Iwan has not been gaining much weight as he has been getting taller, his weight is staying roughly stable. As of November 1, 2009 Iwan's height checks in at five feet and nine inches. As of May 2010 he is now pushing 5' 10".
hair ; The hair of the young Iwan is dark brown. It has been brown all of his life. As he grows older, it seemed to be getting darker in color. His hair is straight, and thick. Most of his family members have hair similar to his, as blonde or brunette seemed to be a dominant trait carried genetically. Iwan would experiment with his hair, trying to come up with different looks depending on how he feels. His hair is generally cut short, and rarely would allow his hair to grow past his eyes.
As Iwan Rhydderch is getting older his hair style is changing. As a teenager he has been growing his hair longer. With the longer hair he has been combing it down, keeping his wavy/straight hair flattened down. As he grows older he may change his hair style once again, but for now he is happily suited with what he has.
eyes ; His eyes are green-blue that seems to dance between the two colors depending upon the lightning, but, in reality they're actually a bright green that shines. They are small and soft with an almond shape with his striking green iris. But, even though his eyes shine, they don't really stand out unless he's in a well lit place, such as under the sunlight bouncing off the snow. Sometimes he will use a charm to change the perception of his eye color. Normally his eyes will remain green but just become brighter. However he has changed his eye color to blue to match a shirt he was once wearing. It is very rare when the teenager will change the perception of his eye color as they do so naturally.
facial features ; With soft lips, and a decent size nose, Iwan has a rounded face. It is not too round that it would seem if he was a ball, but he was not flat either. If he so tried, he could not balance from the top of his head. His lips hold a soft pink tone to them, blending in with a pale skin color as a fading winter breath. Thick eyebrows seem to pull some attention away from his eyes. His face is smooth overall. He has a strong cheekbone structure that is taking shape to becomea dominant feature of his face.
At sixteen years of age, Iwan Rhydderch is not growing much facial hair as of yet. His face is still plain. However, signs of puberty are striking his face. His face is growing and he is losing the 'baby face' and it is being replaced with the face he will grow up to be; a long face. The nose has a straight but narrow bridge, that comes down to just above his lips and starts in-between his eyes. However, his nose does not rise above his eyebrows. His freckles are spread across his face, mostly around and on his nose and under his eyes. The freckles can stand out, but, are starting to fade as he ages.
distinguishing features ; During the last summer, the summer of 2007 Iwan made a deal with his older brother, Cledwyn. Surprisingly, he won, whereas he usually loses the deals. Due to this he pressured Cledwyn to take him to get a small tattoo without their parents knowing. He wanted the tattoo, he wanted something different, but not something large and distracting, just something small. He paid attention to Terra and knew she used a charm to cover a mark, he practiced it and believed he would be able to hide the tattoo once he had it. He got the tattoo, it was a design he liked, a small Chinese or Japanese character that he does not understand. He was able to successfully hide it with a simple charm when needed to, at the times where he had to be shirtless. For the first few days after getting the tattoo he was extremely touchy about removing his shirt. The tattoo was right above his left shoulder blade.
When Iwan was just entering the double digit ages, a mere ten years old, he became extremely sick and had appendicitis. He had to have his appendix removed and it left a scar on his lower abdomen. The scar is now faded and a few inches long. He is proud of the scar (though he was miserable through the surgery), it is his badge, though not something he'd flaunt as a teenager, now that it has aged and slipped from his mind. He constantly forgets about the tattoo, and it remains concealed most of the time due to the magical ink.
style ; His clothing style copies his musical talent. He seems to go with the classic elements of fashion, silk shirts, slacks or jeans. As soon as he could wear casual clothes instead of the robes required for Hogwarts he would prefer to wear a t-shit and jeans. If he is going out with friends, a date, or to some function he would wear slacks and a silk shirt. His silk shirts all have buttons on them. He usually leaves the top one or two unbuttoned, exposing a part of his chest. Around his wrist, he constantly wears a silicone band, the words on them vary and are usually changed by magic to be whatever he feels in the mood. However, he forgets to update it often so the words are outdated. When he needs to have his wand sheathed, he rests it against his left arm, strapped under the tightened silicone band.
His clothes often times match and blend with each other. He learned this from many lessons from his older siblings. However, he is not afraid to go to either of his older siblings and deal with the embarrassment to ask for fashion advice. As he grows older he is taking a more conscious look into his clothing style. Iwan Rhydderch wonders if he dresses correctly from time to time. However, he does not know fashion very well. He can wear matching clothes and tell if clothes go with a belt, shirt, shoes or a jacket. However, if one were to ask him where he bought them or what line or designer they are from he would have no clue.
play by ; Iwan Gareth Rhydderch is played by the amazing Colton Haynes.
the personality[/color]
likes ;
Music[/u] As much as he hates to admit it, he loves music. He could not get enough of it. He listened to it constantly, and without question or fear. Some households become angry when a child listens to music or experiments with styles, but he had the freedom to do so. His family liked a variety of different types of styles, and it made him extremely happy. As a child he would sit on the beds of his sisters or older brother and listen to them play and sing. He admired their skill, and always would.
As a teenager he kept his passion for music. However, during the school days he does not practice music very much. However, the music teacher at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is trying to encourage the young Iwan Rhydderch to come out to the music rooms and participate more in the groups that gather there. Iwan is skeptical of coming to a club where he may have to play an instrument he knows how to play, but is not great. The teenager knows he has a great potential in music, but as a composer. Being a young mind that understands the notes of music, but not having the ability to play them as fast and perfectly as they could be done is still a gift.
Being a composer is one of Iwan's life dreams. Being near the end of his fifth year Iwan is torn between potential futures for himself. Does he want to pursue a lifelong career in music or does he want to pursue a career in his best magical talent, transfiguration? Iwan loves both. He cannot and will not decide between then. He will try his best to do both, and bring both to his career. It is his dream, and he knows he will succeed in it. He has to. It's his life.
Transfiguration[/u] There is no question about it. He is in absolute love with the skill of transfiguration. Ever since he first saw cup morphed into another shape, another object, a small bird at home, when he was four years old, he held onto the memory and admired how it was done. This was one of his fondest childhood memories, and he still remembers it to date as his oldest memory. He grew up wanting to know more about transfiguration, and was very eager for his first day in the class. Transfiguration is one of the greatest desire for the young man's future. He would take the class until he leaves the school.
Ever since Iwan Rhydderch first came to the renowned school of magic, Hogwarts, he had fallen in love with transfiguration. He showed his class that he had taken an instant talent in the subject. Transfiguration became his top subject at the school the first day he had transfiguration class out in the courtyard of the transfiguration wing of the castle. He started off small, and practiced until the spells became so easily and naturally to him that he simply grew bored of them. By the time he was in his third year, he was able to cast transfiguration spells that some fifth years were struggling with.
As a fifth year transfiguration student, Iwan still holds a top position in the subject within his year. He is one of the brightest minds in transfiguration that Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry has to offer. His mind is bright enough that he will be taken Advanced Transfiguration as a N.E.W.T. core class. Iwan will take the class as a proud student, and continue his love of transfiguration until he is able and capable of making a decision of what he wants to be when he grows up.
Transfiguration is the main magical talent of Iwan Rhydderch. He is having a tough time trying to decide in-between a life as a transfiguration master, possibly one of the greatest the world has ever seen, or his life long love of being a composer in the talents of music. Magic or music. The double Ms are a tough choice for the young man. He refuses to choose a talent over another. He will try his best to bring both of his favorite things, both of his talents into adulthood with him. Until then, he just needs to survive school. At this time, Iwan is pushing his transfiguration skills to the limit of which they could go. There is no stopping him.
Solitude[/u] Each and every one of his siblings wish for a quiet day now and then, Iwan is no exception to that desire. He loves to have a moment alone now and then, and he would disappear to gain that moment. But, he would never be gone for too long. Naturally, he is a loud teenager when it comes to doing things, but, there are times where he likes his silence. The chances of silence have increased since he started at Hogwarts, although they are never long. He appreciates each moment he has to his own thoughts. However, as of late, his thoughts have been eating him apart.
Solitude is starting to get to him after a while. He loved being alone, he really did. His twin brother, Llewelyn was his best friend for years, even through childhood. It lasted until the two became teenagers. At the beginning of his fifth year both Llewelyn and Iwan had a falling out, then a fight that landed them both into detention. Since then they have barely been talking. The separation from his brother is starting to get to him. But he ignores it because he has far too much going on in his short life to even care for his brother, that he clearly loves.
Solitude is a dangerous love for the teenager. He may be extremely fond of the chance to be alone, from growing up in a large family, but it has its drawbacks.
Flying[/u] Ever since he has been a child he has been fascinated with the idea of a human flying through the sky. He grew up around wizards and witches whom were able to jump over a seemingly impossible distance. He seen siblings jump on their brooms and soar through the skies. On visits to London, he experienced large planes flying. It fascinates him, the idea of flying seemed so seemingly impossible. He understood magic made it work, but, the muggle's way of flying still fascinates him. Though, he would not want to live in the muggle world, he is intrigued by their methods.
Even with being fascinated by the idea of flying, his broom is not the best. But, not having the best broom does not stop the male from getting sore buttocks by spending hours flying across the massive grounds of Hogwarts. One day he desires to fly to the mountains that can be seen from the castle's towers. But, that day is not any time soon. Flying is something he cannot comprehend, he wonders how magic is able to keep something afloat, and to be controlled so easily by emotion, will, and magic. As far as the teenager was concerned, magic is a force that cannot be controlled. It could only be used. Flying seemed to control the conditions of the air around one, and magic itself.
In the fifth year of Hogwarts, Iwan has not been flying as much as he used to when he was younger. He still uses his broom when he wants to get to Hogsmeade faster then he could walk the near kilometer to the village. He doesn't think of it much anymore. He loves the trips he has to Hogsmeade on the broom. Quidditch strikes and interest. But, the teenager is set on spending his free time with transfiguration, writing music, or meeting with friends. Everything else is a low priority.
Writing[/u] Writing has been a minor passion for Iwan since he entered his teenage years. He noticed he liked to write more and more over time. He wrote songs, normally as poems, but they were able to pass as both. Story writing became a strong skill, and pastime. When he needs a moment of solitude, and doesn't want to be with his thoughts, he'd write. He'd write a story related to what he is feeling. Some of them were very good, and one was published by a magazine nobody's heard of. This ties in with music as well. He discovered he is able to write sheet music very well, and blend in multiple instruments.
In his fifth year he has dropped his love of writing to focus more on his talents. He is pushing his transfiguration skills to the limit, and he has no plan on stopping the plan. The O.W.L.S. are in his fifth year, and he plans on making his transfiguration marks skyrocket, and his other subjects he is devoted to trying his very best on them. When Iwan needs a distraction and does not feel of pursuing his hobbies, writing is something he turns to at the very last moment. He simply does not give it time, even though it is something he greatly enjoys.
When Iwan does write, it happens to be strange letters about things going on in his mind. He had written a letter to the headmaster that ended him up into detention for the second time of the year. He disputed the detention, and showed that the facts he displayed are true even though he had twisted the point of view to be that of several with the same goal in mind. As of late, his writings has been based on his emotions as a place to just let his feelings out. He does want to write creative fiction again, but he simply pushes it away.
Strawberries[/u] Strawberries are his passion food. There is no food he loves more in the world then Strawberries. He fell in love with them as a kid, and his favorite desert is strawberry shortcake. However, he is eating pies made with other fruits as long as strawberry remains a dominate taste in it. If anyone were to bring home a box of strawberries, he would discover them and eat them all before most got a chance to touch them. He would eat strawberries with whip cream or chocolate, but he prefers them on their own. But, he'd accept them in any form or in any moment, as long as they were not a cheap artificial flavoring.
When there is a quidditch match or something going on, he will stock his bag to the brim of food. He is a teenager in puberty, he has a large and seemingly endless stomach. He usually has snacks and sweets based around the flavor of strawberries. He drinks strawberry shakes, drinks, or blends. If something has a rich strawberry flavor, Iwan will try it. And if he loves it, it will become a part of his diet.
His addiction to strawberries are so severe that it overrides his urge for even his hobbies. When Iwan desires to have some strawberries he will go out and get them, and drop everything he currently is doing. The house elves have taken on his love of strawberries and they are sure to add extra strawberries to his usual place when it is time for meals. After lunch and dinner, he takes a bowl of strawberries with him wherever he goes in the castle.
dislikes ;
Rain (thunder)[/u] Rain is a long story. As a child he loved to go out in the rain, but would be scolded for doing so as it made him sick. He loved to jump in the puddles as any young child would. As he grew older, he came to dislike the cold rain ruining his clothes or hair he worked so hard to get just the way he wanted. The sound of rain is something he enjoys, however, thunder frightens him. He would rather to have a spider crawl up his leg, then to be near lightning. As a small child he would crawl into his parents bed or an older sibling's bed when his parents room was off-limits or they were gone. The thunder terrified him as a child. He grew older and learned to cope with it on his own, but loud thunder would make him jump.
Thunder forces him into a state of solitude when he is not around anyone he could completely trust. By being forced into this state, he is left with his thoughts. His thoughts can tear him apart. Being a young homosexual male in a world that still seems repressed against the sexuality, he feels abnormal. He does not feel as if he is a part of the world. Rain and thunder make him stay up through the night. When there is a storm, he hardly can sleep. When he does sleep, it is not sleep of quality.
In recent events, in the months of April and May 2009 there has been rain scattered the weeks. The thunder kept him up at night. A few of the nights he had let tears fall from his face in the showers he took late at night. The thoughts ate him apart. The thoughts led him to asking a professor at the school if the rumors going about were true. He called a professor out as gay, and came to make a new friend and someone he could trust within that professor.
A skunk[/u] Barely eight years old, Iwan had the unfortunate accident of being caught by an escaped skunk. He had no idea where the skunk came from, but it did cover him with an odor he himself couldn't stand, much more any of his family. They joked about having him sleep outside. After a few days, and constantly being washed down with a garden hose and soap the smell was barely noticeable. However, it took about a week to fully vanish. Ever since this unfortunate incident, he has had a strong dislike of skunks, including stuffed animals of which are skunks. If he sees anything that resembles a skunk he would jump back.
It came as a huge surprise that he was ambushed by a skunk. Iwan had no clue what a skunk was until that day he got attacked with the odor of a skunk. Ever since the attack, he has not smelled anything as bad as the skunk. On some of his worst days, he sometimes thinks he could still spell the foul odor the skunk had sprayed him with. But, besides that, Iwan has disliked skunks since then. He seen them at zoos, and he refused to go anywhere near their cages. If a skunk was blocking a pathway, he would take a detour even if it added a half an hour to his route.
Nobody was able to find the skunk that caused this horrible odor. None of the local collectors reported missing a skunk. None of the zoos reported a missing one. Iwan wondered whom in their right mind keeps them as pets. His family knew it was a skunk when he described the creature, but, his brother Llewelyn went to find the skunk and came up empty handed, as if it vanished. His eldest brother, Cledwyn joked it could've been a wizard in his animagus form trying to pull a prank on the Rhydderch family.
Cherries[/u] He strongly believes that cherries are the inferior fruit. He prefers any fruit any day, as long as they are not cherries. He never really enjoyed the taste and would describe them as being too sour for his likings. He hates the stains they leave on his fingers after dealing with smashed cherries. This has been one food he never liked ever since he could remember.
Down the street of where Iwan Rhydderch grew up, there was this woman with two muggle children whom had a cherry tree in her yard. Iwan used to play with the children when he was young and didn't have school. The cherries of the tree made a gigantic mess. One day, when he was about eight years old, the woman offered cherries to the boy to take home. His mother was overjoyed to get cherries so she could use them in a dessert. As soon as Iwan took one bite of them he hated it.
His parents knew he had hated cherries as a toddler, but they did not bother telling him that he disliked it. He had forgotten he hated cherries. But, the fresh bite into them brought back his hate. He stands by the belief that they are an inferior fruit.
Forgetting things[/u] There have been times where Iwan would go up to someone to talk to them about a thought he had. Sometimes he would completely forget about the thought, because it was overridden by another thought. He severely hates when he forgets something when he wants to remember it so hard, in such a conversation or even school work. After the other person leaves, or if the thing he needed to do no longer needed to be done, he hates remembering it once again when it is too late. Or even forgetting to do one homework assignment when he's already in bed for the night. This is possibly his worst fear as well. But, he does not dwell on the thought, he'd rather be terrified of skunks.
Once, he had forgotten his transfiguration work that he stayed up late into the hours in the common room. He went to get ready for bed and check if his homework was finished for the next day, he left it behind in the common room. As soon as he realized that he had left it in the common room, a half naked Iwan Rhydderch in nothing more then socks and boxers ran down the stairs with stunning speed and went to the place he had left his work. He found his scroll there, that he had written on with half of his assignment missing.
Iwan has been careful for a while after that incident about forgetting things. He is terrified of losing something again, and having to rush his work. His largest fear after forgetting classwork is forgetting to meet a friend after he had promised to do so. He feels as if he forgets a friend, he abandoned them. He does not want that feeling returned to him, so he was careful about forgetting prior engagements.
Loud noise in the library[/u] This is really more of a pet peeve of the young Iwan. He hates when he's in the library trying to study for a test coming up, or doing his homework, and someone comes in and makes a loud noise. He doesn't mind when its a group of people talking in their normal voices, or greeting a friend across the room. The noise becomes a different story when someone knocks down a stack of books, knocks a desk or chair over, or scream in fear from a ghost appearing.
When Iwan Rhydderch is in the massive library of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry he is there to focus on his work. When he is focusing on his work he wants to keep to it. Rarely he will go to the library to meet a friend. The library is a place of study, when he needs to meet up with a friend he would meet them in a place less boring then the library.
Inside the library Iwan would usually be found pouring over old transfiguration books and silently practicing wand flicks. When there is a loud disrupted noise inside the library it distracts him and he would lose his pace of thinking. He hates loud noises in the library. He'd rather to have silence so he could focus on the work he is trying to finish.
Chinese food[/u] He cannot stand the dryness of the Chinese food, or the flooding of the noodles or chicken with soy sauce. The taste of the soy sauce was not favorable for him, and is a food he'd avoid when he could. When his family votes on where to go eat, or allows him to make a choice it would be the obvious choice for him, to not vote for the Chinese food restaurants. His earliest memory with Chinese food was when they were eating take-out at home when he was seven years of age. The rice they handed him had far too much soy sauce, which was something he did not enjoy very much. He refused to eat more then a few pieces bites of the rice. He tried the noodles out of Cledwyn's box, and hated the dryness of the noodles, he didn't enjoy the stickiness or chunkiness. The flavored chicken made him spit it back out, he did not care about the embarrassment from his family. That night he just took a quick snack from the fridge, and since then he has avoided Chinese food. He tried Chinese food a few more times over the years, but he still disliked the taste.
Over the years he has given Chinese food several tries. His family loved Chinese take-out every once in a while. The only thing Iwan would eat from the Chinese restaurants is the noodles, which were more dry then he would like. He has no idea what they are called, but he wouldn't touch anything else from the restaurant. When the take-out was at home and they had a fridge of food, he would forget the dry noodles and just grab a snack from the fridge, skipping the meal with his family, if he was allowed up from the table.
If his family wanted to get him to to eat with the others at the table when they wanted a family meal, they would not choose Chinese food. Chinese food was his least favorite meal of them all. Any Asian food would be ideal to avoid one would desire to eat with Iwan at a table.
strengths ;
His intelligence[/u] He strives on his intelligence so much, that it has become a part of whom he is. He has a passion for his studies, and strives to be the best he could in as many subjects as he could. He loved a good book, and he did not care if it was a fictional novel about a wizarding vacation to the Amazon or a biography of the great Harry Potter or Dumbledore. Even if it was a book about the rulings of the court cases of Wizengamot, he'd enjoy it. All the books of any subject, including his least favorite, History of Magic, was alright to him.
He remembers many of the facts from which he reads, and he'd read the same section over and over again to try and burn it into his mind. As he grew older he had many facts in his mind to recite, including useless facts that he enjoyed. Books were a great pastime to him, and
Music theory was something he grew up learning about. He knew the language of the notes, the complexity of interweaving multiple instruments on one sheet. They made sense to him, and it has ever since his father trained him, and answered his many questions. As he grew older, music theory became a subject he was interested in and understood.
He developed a small liking for arithmancy, it was mathematics in an entirely new light. He loved numbers as a kid, and loved how efficient it made counting his toys, or lengths in their backyard. Arithmancy showed the numbers in a new light, numbers of meaning. It interests him how numbers can do more then make counting easier, or solving some long problems just to show he cans, the numbers could also show power within themselves. It made him wonder. Was there anything else so simple in life, that nobody discovered the power behind just yet?
The young Rhydderch is book smart. He is smart and holds significant knowledge in the world outside of books as well. He does not allow the two differences to clash into each other, as he sees no difference in them. He just views them as alternative points of learning. One may learn better through a lecture or a hands on experience, he learns through any format, including the books. It interested him of how much of their world they understood, and the great unknown of what there is left to discover. He wants to remain ahead of the game if he could.
Will ask for help[/u] When it comes to his homework, or class studies, he is not afraid to ask a professor or an older year for help with it. He is quite eager to learn more, and would sit down with anyone willing to take the time to try and explain something he doesn't fully comprehend yet. Even if it is his least favorite subject, History of Magic, he will ask for help in it, for a tutor, for someone to help drill the facts in his mind. He does have a habit of asking questions, to try and make a point clearer to him or confirm his line of thought. His desire to do well in school is not hindered by an embarrassment of asking for help. If something confuses him, he would ask about it. He would try his best to understand the subject. He believes understanding a bit of everything would help him in the long run.
Being home-schooled by his parents when he was a child encouraged the young Iwan to ask for help when he needed it. His parents were his only teachers for years, and he was not afraid to ask them anything. He wasn't afraid to ask them to help him get something from the kitchen when he was too short to reach. This trend continued out of the home, he asked for help when he found himself hopelessly confused. He asked for help when he needed help for something else.
A lot of people are too proud to ask for help. They are afraid it will hurt their image. Iwan has never considered asking for help as hurting his image. He just wants to better himself. By asking for help he can stand through some of the toughest spells and classes Hogwarts could throw at him. He was ready for them, because he knew whom to ask for help if he struggled in anything. He knew who to ask for help outside of the professor if one could explain things in terms that better relate to him.
By asking for help, it is coming to work as an advantage for him. He will stay behind class and be late to his next one. Or come back during office hours of the professor to ask for help, and questions. He would have the details he is confused on explained to him in detail. Even though he could go to the library and just read it out of a book, but he learned at a young age: everything isn't book smart. He preferred to be shown, or told, instead of reading of it.
Loyalty[/u] Iwan is extremely loyal to his family and friends. He would try his best to not harm anyone he truly cares about, no matter what. If there comes a time if he had to choose between two friends, he would be torn apart for days trying to make a decision. He would finally make the decision, and it would be avoiding to make the decision at any cost, so he loses neither friend. He is loyal subconsciously, and does not realize it. It would hurt him to lose a friend or family member, to even be estranged from one. He is close with his family, and friends, he would prefer to keep it that way.
Iwan Gareth Rhydderch is very submissive when it comes to his personality. He takes orders, he follows. He does not disobey or run off and ignore a friend. Iwan is a follower, he is not a leader. Being a follower and of a submissive personality he shows great loyalty. If he ends up in a relationship, he will be the part of the couple that is coerced into the kiss. It is very rare when he will push himself up to become the dominant one, or lead by example. Even when it comes to a dance with another, Iwan cannot lead. He refuses to take the lead.
In the rare chance he shows his dominant side and takes up the lead. This can either be by kissing someone, where he would rather be the one kissed. It is of his nature, and has been ever since he was young. He will quickly back down after he shows his dominant side and become submissive again. Iwan remains loyal, no matter how his personality can change in a matter of moments.
Cleverness and Creativity[/u] He is not afraid to experiment with something new, and try to piece together things he has already learned to try to make something new work. If he cannot accomplish something, he would try to find a way around it. Iwan would piece together spells he has learned from classes such as Charms or Transfiguration to see if they work together. Some do, some do not. He finds great joy in experimenting with magic.
Iwan is fast at casting his spells, it is easier for him to be offensive then defensive if he were in a duel. By being fast at casting spells, he is able to creatively piece together multiple spells to create something that seems far more powerful then his skill level. Even though he could cast transfiguration spells above his spell level, by mixing them together he could impress bystanders that witness his casting. If they pay close attention to his fast speaking voice they would realize he had only pieced things together and not have invented an entirely new spell.
By being creative and clever, it allowed him to have an advantage in a nasty duel he had with his twin brother in the beginning of his fifth year. It impressed himself, and he had realized being creative is a great thing. By having a passion for both music and transfiguration, creativity is a key aspect to succeeding in either. He hopes one day, he will be clever and creative enough to piece the two worlds together to be one.
weaknesses ;
Prioritizing studies[/u] Iwan will prioritize his studies. He knows he would finish his transfiguration work quickly, so he would do it before everything else. Transfiguration is his favorite subject, and many students seem to save their favorite work for last. Iwan does the homework for his weakest class last. He would prefer not to dwell too much time on something if he would not understand it without help from another.
By focusing on his best classes first, he does get a bulk of his work done. However, the work he gets done are for classes he needs the least amount of help in. He will procrastinate and push off his least favorite subjects to the last. By pushing his least favorite class to last place, he still continues to struggle in his least favorite classes. To get around this weakness of his, he has to sit with someone to walk him through his least favorite classes.
This weakness ties into his strength of him being able to ask for help. He would ask for help when he is in danger of failing a class, but as long as he is of a decent standing he will continue to push is weakest subjects out of the way. This is a cycle he tries to break but he cannot, as he keeps slumping back into it.
Inability to comprehend flying[/u] Every smart kid has one thing they would never understand, no matter how hard they try. Iwan simply cannot comprehend the nature of flying. He looked into muggle science for the answer, but it left him more confused trying to figure out the terms. He understands magic makes it happen, but, he just cannot comprehend how one could float, or soar through the air. He admires people whom fly, muggle planes, and birds. He would find himself spending too much time trying to understand the nature of flying, and would make himself late to meeting up friends, or slow to respond on a slow day.
Flying is something that can distract him from his daily thoughts. He tries his best to try and comprehend why magic holds the broom afloat, and how it can be so easily controlled. Iwan has a theory, and believes in a theory that magic cannot be controlled, it could only be asked to do something. He believes magic is a gift, and flying makes him wonder, if a gift can be controlled as well as flying can. He would waste hours trying to focus and come to a conclusion of how flying exactly works.
Separation[/u] Many twins are very close to each other, but Iwan and his twin are just like two normal brothers with different personalities, though they had a few habits identical to one another. He is not only close to his twin, he is equally close to all of his siblings, and parents. He loves them more then anything, and fears of losing them. Going away to Hogwarts was tough on him. Seeing his older siblings going away for the first time was hard on him. He did not want any of them to go. He is coping with it now, but, it puts a dagger in his heart.
Backing down[/u] It can be hard for Iwan to back down when he's in a fight for something he is passionate about, or believes in. If Iwan does something that lands him in trouble, and he believed in it. He'd fight for it. Sometimes, common sense will gain control of him, and he'd simply be quiet and take the punishment, depending on his mood at the time.
Defensive[/u] When it comes to a fight, Iwan does not show his defensive side. It is rare when he does go to the protection of another and risks himself. However, Iwan is quick at casting charms and spells. Iwan Rhydderch forgets to defend himself, and goes all out to bring his opponent down in a fight. He will not kill however.
boggart ; He is afraid of being stripped away of his magical power. A boggart likely would create an illusion of where he cannot counteract it with magic, he would run in fear and be disturbed for a short while until he realizes it was only a boggart.
amortentia ; If smelling a powerful potion such as amortentia, the aroma would overwhelmingly be of strawberries. He would smell hints of coffee, a strong smell of a strong mixture. Along with the coffee and overwhelming smell of strawberries, he would smell one more thing, with a hint of chocolate, but he couldn't place exactly what it is.
erised ; In the ancient mirror Iwan would see a reflection of himself, smiling back at him. He would see himself in the mirror casting a powerful transfiguration spell, and in front of an orchestra. He would see himself as the best of the two worlds he dearly wishes for.
veritaserum ; The deepest secret would be the fact he is a homosexual in the closet. Very few people know of his sexuality, and he fears of it getting out. However, this secret is slowly making its way out. After this secret is out, Iwan would have another secret he would have to hide, and it would likely be his crush at the time.
dementor ; Iwan was twelve years old and home for summer vacation. Llewelyn harassed him, so he ran off, and climbed up a tree. He sat in the tree, trying to be alone with his thoughts by Llewelyn discovered where he was and continued harassing him and calling him squirrel boy for staying in the tree. He climbed the tree as well and the two twins begun arguing with each other. Iwan fell out of the tree. He landed hard on his right ankle, and sprained it. “Iwan!” Llewelyn shouted and and stumbled down out of the tree, and he fell down as well, and hit his head. Iwan jumped up and shouted his twin's name and stumbled over to him, to see some blood. This holds to his worst memory, for he thought he lost his twin brother for a moment that made time stand still. This memory is weak compared to some others, but it holds the most fear to Iwan. It is the memory he wants to forget.
patronus ; A family reunion back when he was twelve years old is the memory Iwan cherishes the most. Everyone in the family was together, they were happy. He did not have a care in the world. He got through his first year at Hogwarts, and he was enjoying life with his family. The reunion holds his happiest memory. His patronus would take the form of a penguin, he would be very surprised when he sees it for the first time. Flying is something he admires and strives to understand, yet, the patronus of a flightless bird would bring irony to him once he accomplishes the casting if the complex spell.
personality ; Ever since Iwan Rhydderch was a young child he has been clever and intelligent, sometimes too much for his own good. He was able to put two plus two together before most children would. He fell in love with books, and wanted books much better then the ones he already had. The simple childrens books weren't enough for him, so he would steal the magic books, and fiction books from his older siblings when they were away.
Even though everyone in his family holds a musical talent. He did not seem to live up to them for much of his childhood. His family members were able to play instruments or sing as if they were a prodigy Iwan does not find comfort in playing any single instrument. However, he does have the musical bone in his body and his family knows it. He knows how to piece together sounds and make them sound as they fit together well, to make music something more then just sounds. He cannot form a song, but he can form a rhythm.
His family members were able to play wind instruments, the keys, or even the strings. Iwan knows a few things about several instruments of which he tried. The piano takes the place as his favorite instrument. He holds more knowledge about the piano then any other instrument. However, he cannot sit down and play a heartwarming song with the instrument. He'd stumble upon the notes and curse himself out under his breath. He would practice for hours on end, and would master some sheets. But, Iwan does not have a future as a pianist.
As he grew up his family grew worrisome that he would not develop a connection with anything in music. They tried to get him to sing, he was able to do it well, but would forget the words too easily. Stage fright remained an issue for him through his childhood, but he gotten used to tuning out others in the room, or was comfortable with whomever was with him. They tried a verity of instruments, and training. He seemed to get lost. Only the piano remained his connection, but, him playing it became extremely annoying to his siblings by ruining their vibe.
He does hold a musical bone, but, it is not in a single instrument. He is able to pull together the sounds of multiple instruments to make them sound beautiful together. Iwan is a composer. Through the time of trying to find a musical talent, he does have other parts of his personality that seems to shine on their own. He gained the trait of cleverness. He was able to piece together notes and create something that made sense. He is very proud of this talent, and this part of his life.
In his free time he enjoys writing stories. When something is plaguing him he writes about it, a story he could connect to. When he needs a moment alone, but does not wish to sort his thoughts or think about something he would write. His stories are well written, with a lot of details. Though, if another reads them, it may bore them with the amount of details. Writing of stories put his mind at ease, he loved it and enjoyed his work, even though he very rarely shared them.
When his loyalty is called into question, he will prove himself to be an extremely loyal young man. He could never choose in between two friends. However, his true loyalties are with his family. If he had to make a choice over a sibling and a friend, he would side with his sibling no matter what. It hurts him no matter what trying to make a choice in between people. He would defend a friend or family member in a heart beat against a stranger. However, if it came to defending a family member from another one, he'd back down and act like he doesn't know anything. He would guard their secrets the best he could, and would never intentionally give it up. When he is tickled hard, he has a laughing fit and cannot stop until the tickler stops. He has no immunity to it. Anyone doing this can even get him to spill his deepest secret. However, nobody outside of his family knows about this tactic.
The young man is in love with transfiguration. Ever since he seen something morphed into something else at the age of four, he desired to learn more about it. He would glance at the old transfiguration books of his older siblings when he had the chance. Though, he was never able to practice any of them until he was at Hogwarts, he was happy to start practicing transfiguration after his first steps on the grounds.
Iwan fell in love with two worlds. He loves transfiguration and sees a future for himself mastering the subject. He also sees a future for himself as a musician. He is a natural composer, whereas many train for years to learn to do so. These two worlds were drastically different but very alike to him. He is torn between them, and never wishes to make a choice to abandon one for the other. He would try his best to keep both. He strongly feels he has to make a choice of one over the other. He feels with all of his heart he would prioritize one over the other, and forget the skill.
However, Iwan has a secret that is slowly tearing him apart. He is a homosexual male in the closet. He knows he is, he came to terms with it when he was fourteen. However, he is afraid of how others would perceive him if he were to let them know. He fears he would lose his security blanket if this secret ever gets out among others. He is slowly working up the courage to tell his siblings.
Iwan is very open minded when it comes to trying new things. He would try any type of food once. He isn't afraid to learn about something new, or sit down and take in another point of view. He would defend his stance, however he would let another give him the point of view.
During the times at Hogwarts, he had experienced the rivalries of the houses. It was constantly Gryffindor v Slytherin. It annoyed Iwan to some perspective, but he has made a friend from each house, including the one he was least likely to, Slytherin. He doesn't discriminate against the house, but after a few years at Hogwarts he knows which cliques to avoid. When it will come to dating, if he ever gets there, he wouldn't care which house they were from.
He has a liking of using the word damn when he speaks, it seems to be his most favored word choice. He normally uses the word when he is being stubborn over a small issue, but, the word is starting to slip into his every day language.
Iwan is determined to be his own person, to be different then his family. He is motivated by the factor of want. He wants to be great in his own light, he had three older siblings to live up too. He subconsciously needs to make himself feel proud, and make his parents and already adult siblings proud of him. He will defend his family, including his brother when he feels a need to. He will become defensive by a change in the events where he feels someone he loves is threatened. He does know how to wrestle, and run quickly. He grew up in a full house, with four males, and three girls, he learned to wrestle and get out of situations by running, or trying to overpower a sibling.
When he was younger he would mimic emotions toward his siblings. When they got angry with him, he would be angry with them. When a sibling ignored him, he ignored them. It became an annoying factor some days, but Iwan would eventually crack under pressure and apologize for whatever he had done. He would even apologize if he forgot what he had done, as he couldn't handle the hate for a long period of time, more then a few days. He would sometimes mimic emotions as a teenager, but the habit died down as he grew into his teenage years. He would only mimic the emotion to the sibling that had an issue with him at the time, and he wouldn't give his emotions to the wrong sibling.
In his personality and relationships, Iwan is very submissive. He does not show dominance in a relationship with anyone. He will be the one that gets kissed, he's not the one that kisses the other. He cannot lead a partner in a dance, he gets lead. Iwan Rhydderch is a follower, not a leader. It is rare when he shows that he could be dominant. He has it within himself to be dominant, but he prefers to be submissive. He'd rather to stand back.
Iwan can hold a grudge. Endlessly. He will become furious and he will retailaite against the grudge if he feels very hurt and betrayed. Needless to say, Iwan won't sto pat anything when angry at someone he cares about with all of his heart. He'd even go as far as putting himself into danger or compromising his own morals.

the school life
year ; Fifth year.
pet ; A female snowy owl by the name of Amelia.
favourite subject ; Transfiguration is by far the best subject of the young Iwan. Ever since he started at Hogwarts he took an instant fascination of what it is. His skill in the subject seems natural, and he would spend many hours practicing. He is fascinated by the idea of changing something from the very being into something else. Transfiguration to him is like a muggle visiting the moon the first time.
worst subject ; History of Magic is his worst class. As much as he tries to pay attention, he nearly falls asleep every single lesson. He gets passing marks though, but barely. As soon as he gets a chance, he would drop the class. History holds some fascination, but, it bores him far more then in interests him.
best spell ; The best spell for the young man is clearly the conjuration transfiguration spell that shoots arrows from his wand. He practiced for well over a month to get the spell right, after learning about it. He was inspired by the Appleby Arrows during a Quidditch match to learn this spell. However, it is starting to bore him. He is working and asking questions constantly to learn to change what is conjured, or the shapes of what is conjured.
worst spell ; As much as he tries, he cannot seem to master the Silencing Charm. He would chant silencio constantly, and trying to copy others. It does not work for him, whatsoever. Once it backfired and silenced him for the day.
OWLs taking and grades ;
Iwan does very well in Transfiguration and Arithmancy. His Charms grade is drastically improving and becoming a match for his high marks. His weakest classes are Care of Magical Creatures, Herbology, and Potions. He does decent in History of Magic, Muggle Studies, Defense Against the Dark Arts and Astronomy. He has yet to fail a class. history ; The day of which Iwan and his twin Llewelyn were born was an exciting day for the family. They were blessed with a second set of fraternal twins, it was a long labor, but Llewelyn was born first and a few moments afterwords came the youngest member of the family, Iwan. It was a cool day back on August 7, 1993. The weather was kind, not too cool, not too hot. It was the end of an unforgettable summer for the family of Rhydderch. They spent the few months in the summer preparing for the last children to join the family in their generation. Another pair of twins, everyone was overjoyed to gain two little brothers.
Before Iwan and Llewelyn were born their parents already had three children, Cledwyn, Isolde, and Terra. Terra was three years older then him. Cledwyn and Isolde is eight years older then him. All of his siblings and parents were loved, they were all treated equally by their parents. Each of the older children welcomed the new twins, Iwan and Llewelyn into the home, the sisters were overjoyed of having a smaller brother, the only other male was overjoyed to have another male in the house. They were all raised in a home of great musical influence. Every child found something relating to music, some musical skill that made them shine on their own away from the others in the family.
Growing up, Iwan tried several instruments out, starting with the violin. He never snapped with any of the instruments he tried, saxophone, flute, clarinet, saxophone, cello, and even a harp and other instruments. It was a few years before he begun to play a few notes on the piano, when he was seven years old. It was the first instrument he truly enjoyed. He loved the piano, the many keys, and the vastly different sounds for each key. It became something he understood after practicing on it constantly.
However, his aptitude of learning the notes was great, but he became confused as the pieces grew more complicated. He couldn't piece it together right without sheet music in front of him. He couldn't remember the correct patterns without a helping aid. Iwan tried his best to learn, and practice when no-one else held control of the piano. After a while he learned to play the piano decently, becoming his first connection to music. He was not as good as anyone else in the family at an instrument yet, including his own twin. He was far behind them. It hurt him, he wished he had more musical talent.
The young Iwan Rhydderch does not remember much about his childhood before the age of eight years old. As he got older, it seemed the memories of his times as a child faded away and replaced by memories of knowledge, school, and teenagedom. More of his memories seem to be fading as he ages.
When he was eight years old, a trip to London inspired him. His oldest siblings were only sixteen at time, and were far more interested in magic. Iwan had no magic for himself yet, though he understood the importance of hiding the fact he has knowledge of it. He loved this trip to London as his parents took them to see the sights, the greatest buildings the muggles built have ever built within the city. He seen nothing like it in the magical world. Some buildings soared to amazing heights. Even heights he rarely seen a wizard flying a broomstick at.
At the age of nine years old he became frustrated with his twin brother Llewelyn and felt he was controlling his life. He then begged his parents to switch their rooms. His two older siblings were moving out, and it provided an opportunity for him to grab his own room. The remaining children, Llewelyn, Terra and Iwan fought over whom would move into the larger room, and basement. Llewelyn won the basement, Terra won the larger room, and Iwan remained in the room him and Llewelyn spent much of their childhood in, the only difference was he had the room to himself. Llewelyn being in the basement that belonged to their oldest brother Cledwyn provided relief to Iwan, he did not have to be glued to his twin any longer. This was the first time Iwan showed he wanted to be independent from his family at times. He was stubborn about it.
That very night, of which he gained dominance and the independence of his own bedroom, he sat in his room by himself for the first time, with sheets from the piano. Iwan wished to practice remembering the notes, He noticed a page of the handwritten sheet music was incomplete, and he felt he knew how it ended. He grabbed a pen and filled the rest of the page in. He was satisfied with it, and before he went to bed for the first night of being independent, he returned the sheets to the piano, forgetting the fact he filled the rest of the sheet in without really thinking of it.
The following day his father stumbled upon the sheet and asked him and Llewelyn whom finished the page. Llewelyn said it wasn't him, so it left Iwan to take the blame. After a moment of silence he couldn't lie to his father and told truth confirming he filled in the rest of the page. A large smile, a grin, grew on his father's face. It was the largest grin Iwan ever seen his father give. He sat Iwan down at the kitchen table, and sat down himself. He gave his son a few more sheets of uncompleted music, and watched how quickly filled in the notes that would match, completing the sheet music for things his father has been working on for some time.
It started with the piano, and over the few months he started filling in the sheets for other instruments. He understood the notes, the rhythm, the sound, and how they piece together. But, his hands couldn't play the instruments correctly. He was able to write the music down. They discovered his true musical talent, composing. They discovered this talent when he was ten years of age. It seemed late. He was to turn eleven in a month. He was nervous for Hogwarts. He never showed a sign of magic before.
He wrote on blank sheets of paper to create new songs, trying to blend a violin with a piano, to keep his mind off the fact he has not shown a sign of being a wizard. His twin brother already has, but he has not. He wondered if he would turn into a squib, and be ordinary like his father's family. The thought disturbed him, so he focused on the writing of musical notes. After a few days keeping to himself, and only writing notes his twin interrupted him by stealing one of the pages so he could read it before it was finished. Iwan hated when others looked at his sheet music before they were finished.
He wanted the paper back, and yelled at his twin. Both the boys jumped back realizing what happened. The paper turned into a small frog. It freaked both of them out. Then they wondered which of the twins made that happened. Llewelyn had a few encounters with magic, if this was him again it bummed Iwan out. It was Iwan's first sign, as he was the only one showing grave emotion at the time. He did not show another sign until the day the letters from Hogwarts arrived for the twins. He accidentally turned his letter into a frog as well, without wanting to. His mother reversed it and he was a happy boy.
The age of nine remained eventful for him. Isolde came home for the summer and Iwan was curious of something she had practiced when he was being his good little brother and spying on her. He came to her and asked about the dancing. Iwan wanted to learn it, badly. He loved watching how Isolde would move through the room when she was alone. It was his impulse when he walked into her room and asked her if she could teach him. He learned some things that summer, and some basic dances. When he had time he asked her for more lessons, however they only happened when Isolde came home for the breaks.
When he was ten years old he fell sick, and the right side of his abdomen caused great pain. The pain stung him, he developed a fever and felt miserable. His father recognized the symptoms almost immediately, he had appendicitis. His mother was gone for the weekend, and his father's muggle instincts kicked in and took the twins to a muggle hospital to get Iwan's appendix removed. The hospital wasted no time, the doctors there knew exactly what it was and said he needed to have surgery that very day. It left a scar, and he was feeling much better within a few days. He loved that the hospital allowed him to have as much ice cream as he wanted. It frustrated him that Llewelyn kept stealing it from him, or interrupting the nurses ordering a flavor he disliked.
Iwan snuck into his older brother, Cledwyn's room in the basement and attempted to play his treasured drum set. It was a week after his appendix removal, the start of the summer. Cledwyn came home and caught him playing the drums, of which he was forbidden to do so. Iwan saw his brother and jumped up and ran past his older brother. Cledwyn chased him up the stairs and around the house. Their father stopped the boys and told Iwan the doctor said to rest. He made Iwan sit on the couch, and gave him a firm warning about running about. Cledwyn left him be, forgetting about the drum ordeal; he had heard of his younger brother's recent surgery and understood he needed to remain calm.
The scar was the only badge he had for the longest time, he was not completely confident in his musical abilities as of yet, or anything else he was able to do. The fact he had something removed from his body, something his other siblings couldn't say, it made him proud, it set him apart. Even though the experience made him miserable, it was one of the better times of his childhood. He survived an ordeal that was not natural, and different then his siblings, it meant a lot to him.
Growing up in a full house made him active physically. He is able to run fast, able to fly a broom well, and able to hold his own strength. He learned from his siblings, here were four males and three girls in his household. He was the youngest of the lot, he knew how to squirm and run away quickly after annoying an older sibling. He had many books, and stole many books from the trunks of his siblings. He grew used to having to carry heavy stacks of books, or moving the full trunks around to get something. He spent time in the attic moving the heavy boxes about trying to grasp an old book someone tossed that they did not need any longer.
Through the years he stole books from his family, in order to read them. They were normally books they would not miss. He took the second year transfiguration book from his sister Isolde and took it to school with him to practice out of after he felt too bored with his first year book. He later stole the third transfiguration year book from his brother Cledwyn. Other books got stolen over time, a few charms books, some novels, he does not remember if half of his books are his or a family member's. He never returned the books, and never wanted to. They probably noticed it was missing, but did not care enough about it to seize the property back from Iwan.
Shopping in Diagon Alley was wonderful. He had been there before, but it was not for shopping directly for him. It was always with a sibling. It was finally his turn. It was a fun experience, but a bit frustrating. Llewelyn got his wand easily, within the first few tries. It took seven different wands before one choose Iwan. The wand that he settled with was a 10 ¾ Mahogany Phoenix Feather wand. New books were refreshing. It ended up a great day after the wand fiasco with him accidentally breaking the windows of the renowned shop.
His first year at Hogwarts was lovable. He was sorted into a house that fit him well, while his brother was sorted into a different house. It gave him a sign of relief, it would mean he had a chance to be alone for once. He never truly knew what it was like to be separated from all of his family at one time. After a few days he missed his twin, his family, and his home. The separation got to him and he learned to cope with it, eagerly looking forward for the times he could return home.
Transfiguration during the first four years of his life at Hogwarts proved to be something he had a gift with. He fell deeply in love with transfiguration, all the branches amazed him. However, the lectures in History of Magic bored him for the years there. He would much rather sleep through the class and read the notes or book later. But, he paid attention anyway. His parents spoke of the importance of Hogwarts, and so has his older siblings, he respected their decision.
He did well his first year, passed every class. He did have some close calls, but his grades sharply improved the other years, holding to a high standard. He always received the highest marks in transfiguration on the report cards and tests.
The second year he begun to show his strengths in other subjects besides his favored one, transfiguration. He made a huge comeback in Charms. In first year he barely passed Charms, in his second year he walked away with the highest grade possible, Outstanding. It exceeded his expectations and he was damn proud of his remarks. He learned to like charms after a while, and since the scare of his first year, he remained motivated and knew Charms lessons had to be a priority.
Toward the end of his third year, where he was thirteen years of age, puberty had begun. His voice begun to change, cracking more often then he would like. He hated the fluctuating voice and wish it would end faster. Over the months his voice drastically changed from a high pitch down to a deeper and smoother constant tone. He had to repeat things to himself often to hear how he says and pronounces things. He had to give himself crash course with his new voice. He quickly grew used to it. The beginnings of puberty established himself as a teenager. He now felt a real teenager, though, the changes scared him and he refused to talk to others about it for quite some time.
Fourteen years of age, and toward the end of the summer, boys his age were talking about the opposite gender. He did not understand. He knew they were the opposite gender, and what made them different, but, he did not feel any attraction to them. He shrugged it off, thinking it would come along later. Back at Hogwarts for his fourth year, it hit him by surprise. He felt attracted to his own gender. It was a complete surprise to him, and he denied it for a few months.
Toward the end of his fourth year, he developed his first crush on a fifth year Hufflepuff boy. He didn't know what to think, and was nervous around him. Llewelyn noticed this and lightly teased him on it. After a few weeks, his twin finally guessed what it was. Llewelyn pulled Iwan aside and asked him the question he dreaded being asked, “You're gay, huh?” It took Iwan a few minutes to respond, he nodded and ran off from his brother. He was not comfortable with the fact, and felt ashamed. Llewelyn tried to talk to him, but Iwan avoided him. Finally, Llewelyn caught up with him a few days later and told him he had nothing to fear. Llewelyn was the first person ever to learn his secret. It was a secret he guarded.
The summer before the fifth year, they visited their brother Cledwyn in London. They both enjoyed London. Llewelyn went out with their sister, leaving Cledwyn and Iwan alone. Iwan did not waste any time, as soon as the others were gone he asked Cledwyn about dating and sexuality. He was teased lightly as his brother tried to push for details out of him. But, Iwan spoke up, admitting a secret to him, “I'm gay. I don't know what to do.” It scared him. Cledwyn's response made him feel so much better about himself. Of course, Cledwyn told him to avoid premarital sex, as a good older brother setting an example would do. He since hasn't worked up the courage to tell his parents or sisters yet.
After the weekend in London with their older siblings it was time for them to return to Hogwarts for their fifth year. It was the year where the twins would be alone as Terra graduated the year before. The fifth year was filled with activities, and it became the year where Iwan truly learned more about himself and his desires of mastering transfiguration or going further in his musical talents. He was torn between his sexuality, and trying to grasp what it meant to him. He spent time wondering if he'd ever have the opportunity date anyone or discover what love is.
Throughout the years, when he returned home for the breaks (winter and summer) he practiced sheet writing and even took the hobby to Hogwarts with him. He remained true to his studies and tried his best to remain ahead of the game. However, he hated sharing his uncompleted sheets. With help from his father he learned to add a third and fourth instrument on one sheet. The notes seemed to be a mess, that would need to be separated later, but they made sense to him. It was music to him, and anyone else whom could separate the notes and understand how it was to be played. He did steal other things now and then, but they were minor and really never missed.
In his fifth year he had to deal with a touch choice, transfiguration studies or continue with writing music. He needs much practice in both. If he focuses on his music, he feels he would give up an opportunity of being a great transfiguration master. If he gives up music and chooses transfiguration he feels he'd betray his family, even though they won't care, but it would hurt him personally. Along with giving up music, he would feel he lost his soul, and a possible future as a great composer. Which future does he want? A master of transfiguration or a great composer with soul? Iwan has no idea how he'd choose a calling, and is trying his best not to think about it. It was not an easy thing for him to think about. If it was possible for him to be both, he'd figure it out soon.
He has yet to have his first true kiss with someone whom he is in love with. He has not even kissed anyone in the manner of love, crush, or curiosity.
At the very beginning of his fifth year, Iwan and his twin brother ended up in a heated argument that continued from the summer. It led to a duel outside the castle that landed both the boys into detention. Llewelyn proved himself to be better then Iwan at casting defensive and deflective charms. Iwan prevailed in the duel by the counts of others, even though he lost against his brother before. The beginning of the fifth year marked the year where Iwan's skills in charms skyrocketed. Iwan was able to cast his offensive spells faster this his brother was able to defend and deflect against them.
He had learned in the later of his fourth year to do arrow conjuration as inspired by seeing the Appleby Arrows in a book. He loved this idea, and found more out about it over the summer and begun to work away in the beginning of his fifth year. It was a conjuration transfiguration spell. After he had mastered it, he begun target practice in the Ravenclaw common room. Practice went well, but, he constantly missed the mark on the board he put up on the wall.
A few of the arrows flew around the room. Some lodged themselves into the stone. They were sharp arrows. The racket was loud by the bouncing of arrows hitting the walls. He had fun with it, and was laughing like a wild maniac. His aim improved as he kept conjuring them. He took a quick break to catch his breath and did a few charms to clean up his mess. He did not waste any time and continued again. The Head Girl came down to the room and he quickly sheathed his wand, and Amata Athenias-O'Doyle, head girl of Hogwarts dragged him away from the scene of the crime and chewed his head off. She dragged him off and landed him detention. He couldn't help but to give a grin at this. His experiment was a success. The detention was well worth it.
Later in his fifth year in the month of April 2009 Iwan Rhydderch called out a professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry on being gay. Iwan just wanted to know if there was another gay in the school as he felt alone and the only others he knew of where Josiah and Holden. Those two weren't the ones you'd run to. Micajah scared Iwan further then he has ever been scared in his life. He had pushed emotions forward that Iwan has been trying to push aside for far too long. He was right, Micajah De'Santise was gay. His emotions built up too fast, and too far. He released them with Micajah's help. This is allowing him to lift a huge burden off of his shoulders. Micajah scared and threatened Iwan and his academic record... He was a Ravenclaw, his record was the most important thing to him. Iwan cried and shouted at Micajah. He finally had admitted to the first person outside of his tightly knit circle of trust that he was gay.
In the second term of the fifth year, Iwan has been helping a sixth year named Thorne Altec. Iwan got hit by a stray quill flying through the corridors and ended up having to go to the hospital wing to get it removed from his leg, as it was lodged in tight, too tight and he couldn't remove it himself. He met Thorne there and agreed to help give Thorne pointers so he could 'woo' his best friend Temperance Bennett. However, through these lessons, Iwan started displaying a side of him that he rarely reveals. He was himself. Attempting to flirt with Thorne, which he had done badly. He had exposed his soul to Thorne then each time attempted to cover it up. Iwan Rhydderch has fallen for the boy whom he was helping to get a date with someone else.
To his surprise he had allowed his impulsive emotions control his mind. His heart won. “Look at the signs, Thorne. I like you.” He kissed Thorne in the plain public view of a busy Hogsmeade street. He apologized and ran off, leaving his backpack behind. He apologized and asked Thorne not to tell anyone. Iwan felt horrible, distrusted, and betrayed as Thorne yelled at him. He wanted to disappear completely from the world. He admitted his crush for the first time in his life. It was his first kiss... That he had initiated. Thorne called him a fairy. It hurt and stung. It hurt even more when Alixander Kane came along and beat Iwan up and called him a honeydukes special.
To his surprise, Thorne returned being oddly protective of Iwan's backpack and decided to return it. Thorne caught Iwan being beaten on, nose broken, bruised, black eyes. Thorne couldn't stand it and knocked out Alixander Kane. He then kissed Iwan. It was their first mutual kiss of passion. He was happy and yet furious at the same time. Thorne ended up being the boy whom rejected Iwan to becoming the savior. The two begun a secret relationship, staying hidden in the shadows, empty corridors and away from others. Thorne was dating a girl named Lisa, Iwan became the 'other person'.
Over the summer the two met up constantly. Thorne invited Iwan to the beach with his family where they hid behind the rocks to make-out. On the seventh day of August, 2009 it was Iwan's sixteenth birthday. Iwan's twin brother, Llewelyn wanted to go do something on their birthday. Iwan didn't want to go. He really just wanted to stay behind and be alone with Thorne in an empty home. The two were home alone sitting on Iwan's bed. They were kissing each other. To their surprise his bedroom door opened to reveal his father, Caerwyn and his best friend Temperance. Iwan froze. Thorne jumped up and walked a distance from the bed. “Dad... It's not what it looks like... I can explain!”
Caerwyn stood surprised for moment not saying a word. He spoke up, “Yes... son, it's exactly what it looks like. My son making out with a boy. Stay here, both of you. Don't move.” He left and returned with Iwan's mother, Gwenith. Iwan exhaled believing he was going to be in a world of trouble on his sixteenth birthday to say the least. He still had three weeks of summer left. His father tells Temperance she can wait in the living room, Iwan shook his head asking her to stay. The room befell in an awkward silence.
Gwenith broke the silence with some new rules, “Okay, Iwan. I thought... We thought we would never have to talk to you about this. When you're home with someone you like, that includes all girls and boys now on, you cannot close or lock your bedroom door. No staying home alone with either boys or girls.” The rule was originally no girls in his bedroom with the door closed or when he was home alone. He was shocked and speechless at what they were saying and did not speak up.
“So... You begun dating, son? Good! Remember to be safe, wait, and take things slow. Tell us when you're going out on a date... Because we want to know.” His father, Caerwyn spoke. Iwan never once spoke the words I'm gay or I like boys to his parents. They were okay with it, and enforced the new set of rules. They did chaperone Iwan and Thorne's first date after that incident but they begun to trust Iwan again. Iwan hadn't broken any of the rules they set out and always made it home before curfew. With his parents being accepting of whom he was Iwan decided to fully come out and not hide that part of himself any longer. He did end up telling his sisters, Isolde and Terrwyn later on the evening of his birthday. Everyone was okay with it and Cledwyn seemed relieved to know that Iwan was finally comfortable with the secret he swore Cledwyn and Llewelyn to secret over.
Llewelyn couldn't resist but to tease Iwan on his first day back at school. Iwan smirked and glad he was back. Thorne decided he was okay with the two being seen a bit more in public. Iwan never flat out told people he was gay back at school, they had to ask or find out for themselves. But, Iwan was happy to be out in the open. Within the first few months Iwan discovered that Thorne was lying to him. He put on a fake smile and went to a meal with Micajah without Thorne, whom was supposed to join him that day. He never told Thorne that he knew he was lying. But, Iwan figured it out because Thorne faked being sick and kissed Iwan. Every time Thorne was sick before he refrained from kissing Iwan in fears of getting Iwan sick as well.
On the seventeenth of October, 2009 Iwan and Thorne were alone in Thorne's bedroom that he shared with his brother Lans. Thorne went to take a shower Iwan laid on Thorne's messy bed eating strawberries. Before he knew it Thorne carried him into the shower. Iwan threw his shirt out and kissed Thorne, but, he remained clothed. Thorne had watched himself and kept a distance sexually when it came to Iwan. Iwan was the one that restrained, not Thorne. He knew Thorne was a teenage boy that was horny and whom has had sex before, but, Iwan hasn't. Iwan of course was filled with hormones, but, he never had actually been with someone before.
Thorne was his first love. It seemed that Thorne was slightly disappointed that Iwan restrained from doing much in the shower, hence he turned off the shower. He removed Iwan's clothes and tried to dry Iwan. Iwan told Thorne that he was going to take a set of his clothes. Thorne told him to go ahead and Iwan had done so, even if the clothes were a bit too big for him. After a few moments of thinking to himself. Debating with himself. He had realized he was fully in love with Thorne in the past several moments. Even the night before he had realized. He called for Thorne and spoke to him. Iwan told Thorne he was ready and willing to give sex a go. It surprised Thorne and he made sure it was what Iwan wanted. Iwan simply smiled and several passionate moments later he had lost his virginity. The two are still together. Everything seems to be going alright between the two.
Iwan has intense potential to become a great wizard or a great composer. One that would rival the other greats. But, he can only follow one, not both of his passions. Music is his first love, transfiguration is his second. Which will he choose? Those around him will effect his choices. He may choose both, and never become a great, and always be just... Good. He can choose one and be a wizard in his late years that would rival others. Or, choose music, and learn to touch the souls of millions and forge a new era in classical music. The character now seen on Priori Incantatem is the youth of someone with the potential to become an amazingly influential person in several decades, it is now his pivotal years. He's in his teenage years: identity crisis, love, heartbreak, first kiss, discovering himself, falling in love for a third time.
Thorne Jackson Altec, Iwan's first boyfriend was Iwan Rhydderch's first love... And third love. He fell for music first, then Transfiguration. Then finally, Thorne stole his heart. His boyfriend may not know it yet, but, he does hold great influence over Iwan's choices and his decisions over the next while, if their relationship holds, possibly for the next several years.
Iwan and Thorne's relationship held strong for about ten to eleven months, with the first few months in secret. Many have warned Iwan against going after Thorne, including Iwan's twin brother, Llewelyn whom Thorne was one of his best friends. Iwan Rhydderch ignored his own brother, ignored a trusted professor, and went after the 'bad boy' that was Thorne Altec. The two had lasted a surprising amount of time, though Iwan learned to read Thorne's lies simply because Thorne faked being sick... Constantly. Iwan was able to tell based on if Thorne kissed him or not. Thorne was also Iwan's first, and he did lose his virginity to him back in Thorne's house after pushing Thorne off several times.
Iwan's more comfortable with whom he is, happy with himself. Everything was going well until February, 2011. On February 28, 2011 Thorne Altec cheated on Iwan with Serj Lockwood. Iwan figured it out a few weeks later and avoided Thorne for about a month. Thorne managed to finally corner Iwan down. Iwan offered Thorne a free pass, which in turn Thorne only yelled at him. Iwan broke it off, surprising himself in his weakness because he really just wanted Thorne back. He's now single and seeing where life takes him.

There was a spark of inspiration in the young man, Iwan Rhydderch. He stopped walking down the corridor and slammed his back against the wall. He slid down to the ground grasping for his pen and sheets of paper from his bookbag. He had an instant spark of inspiration, he did not intend to waste it. He drew notes, notes for three instruments, a piano, a violin, and a flute.
He wrote the sheet music, the notes seemed a mess, but they made sense to him and he would separate them later if they ever were to be used. The sounds of the instruments played in his head, he heard the warmth and the heartbreak of them interweaving with each other. His notes seemed erratic, but spaced in three evenly spaced consistent rows, spanning across the page. Many people wrote the words first, then a musical tone to go with it, and slowly added others in. He placed no words on them. The first row was the main instrument, the piano which played throughout the entire piece.
The noise begun to die down, as the shuffling in the halls came to an end. He was going to be late to class. He realized this and quickly sped up his writing and sped up his thoughts. He finished the page and lost the inspiration just a moment after grasping it. It was a funny thing, the inspiration came when it came, and it could be lost so easily. It was yet another piece that may never be finished. He enjoyed staring at them later, wondering if he can skillfully piece together an ending.
He shoved the pen into the pockets of his robes, and quickly stood up. Iwan scrambled through the halls to make it to his next class, which conveniently was the History of Magic subject. He walked in, clearly late, and muttered a quick, “Sorry I'm late.” He gave a quick smile and scrambled to take his seat. He slammed the sheet music down on the desk and sat. It was a piece he'd continue glancing at throughout the class, unless somehow the lecture was something different that grasped his interest for a few moments.
The professor spoke up and welcomed him to the class. They were reviewing the lecture yesterday. The other students were turning in their assignment from the double period two days before. It was an essay that was easier then most of the tests. The essay only asked for opinions on a magical war that happened several centuries before. The politics of it was difficult to understand as there seemed to be too little information about the war, but it provided a great essay to write about.
Luckily for the moment their professor required no input from any students yet. Iwan wasn't in the right state of mind, but was still listening. Other students in the room were already passing notes about through the class, but, he just sat there, doing nothing. He would learn most of the information from the book. It did not take long until he was asked a question. The answer to the question he was asked was a simple year. Iwan responded, “Fifteen, forty five.” He learned it from the history book when he reviewed it the evening prior.
